As long as it’s part of the prestige/Viceroy formula, people will seek it. People will still fight. People will still fight over plots/real estate.
I agree with this. This would help dilute things a bit and spread things out among the playerbase.
Edit to add…Apologies for going off-topic. Will delete, if needed.
Ok, i play on ps4, i read th this forum on my ps4. I am not computer literate. And i am very confused as to what this means for my settlement. I dont have big roads surrounded by emptiness. I dont have reserved spaces, i only plot what i use, and only have 1 beacon. But i have built underground in a few places, and i did tear dow a small mountain to build something large. And i did plot around empty air for my taller build. So is this saying i will not becompact? And my beacon will be deleted? Ive been at my location since the game was released on console and am a solo player i only plot what i use. This is very worrisome.
What planet are you on?
Sorissi, my settlement is kinda large9 mill prestige i think
Nothing will be deleted.
Yellow = bad
purple=good
This is the planet at the current 0.25 compactness rate
The large settlement on the right goes purple at around 0.18 compactness.
The large settlement on the bottom goes purple at 0.01 compactness.
If a beacon triggers the moderators & they deem it abusive, it will be corrected - as they stated…if the player doesn’t correct it first.
Ok, thank u, one moe question. Does this mean i should stop building and expanding? I was in the process of building a large castle, but now im unsure weather or not im good to keep plotting as i build.
@james I think it would be helpful to know what % of the planets are occupied by plots/beacons/blocks.
If the majority of building activity is on tier 1 & 2 planets, then maybe adding a few more from time to time would relieve some congestion/fights? As most people seem to favor these planets for homes, bases, guilds, etc. (It would also be good for a lot of the new players to spawn on these newer planets imo.)
If it’s spread fairly evenly across the Oortverse, then this point is moot.
Oh, and i think im the large settlement at the bottom, but all thats orange is an unknown player whos plots touch on corner of my settlement, as far as i know theres nothing built on those plots, my plots are the purple part of that settlement
James stated that the compactness values may change (the reason for this thread), so you can change things now if you’d like (add/remove plots, fill in areas, etc) - or you can wait a bit to see if they lower the compactness % restrictions a little bit.
As long as your plots are purple, you should be fine. The parts in yellow (if the values remain the same) will drop to zero prestige if they don’t add plots to correct their place, but it shouldn’t have any effect on you.
What disappoints me of this proposed change is that roads/bridges are discouraged.
The idea of building roads and bridges are for infrastructure and connectivity between settlements.
I agree with this. If the problem is the “road” are being used to connect settlements to gain prestige, then i think this is the solution. Both party need to agree to become a greater settlement. So each beacon would have an option to connect or stay separated.
Much like real countries we have now, like nepal or bhutan, they are small country surrounded by larger countries, yet they chose to be its own country and independent. They collect their own tax (footfall here) and still trade with the neighbouring countries.
I do still like to travel by foot to see settlements and enjoy the scenery. The road would just make it easier and more enjoyable. Don’t have to worry with holes on the ground, lava, water/swimming and climbing tall mountains (unless you want to)
Sry for rambling too much. I just like to say my personal opinion
Thank u very much, that is a big relief. I was very concerned. I appreciate your answering my questions
Yeah I think you will be fine April. Build away!
What kind of castle?
Even though I don’t appear to have any issues with my settlement I don’t think that this proposed idea is a good idea. It does seem to unreasonably negatively affect shopping malls. Shopping malls are an important form of infrastructure in any society including digital ones made of Toons and attractive voxel blocks.
An opt in/out ability for settlement joining or autonomy could help prevent aggressive building. Rental planets with the ability to transfer settlements and builds could help provide space for people that want to take over an entire planet. Those are just two ideas off the top of my head that has been mentioned before. I believe that this proposed change is causing too many problems. Too many players that IMO are players with positive contributions are going to be negatively affected.
I like the pop up telling me settlement names
I think compactness should be tied to the tier of the planet, so that lower tier planets have a higher compactness requirement then the higher tier planets.
With the addition that when rental planets are added the owner should be able to set the minimum compactness score a beacon can have.
Remove roads where needed and then from where each side remains compact, build very intricate detailed portal links to each side? Could make the portals very large in size due to it being in same server, upkeep cost shouldn’t be too much (I don’t think??) But the portal landings could have amazing details surrounding them, could also serve as areas for players to get info about the various sides using signs and whatnot?
