Help New Players: Item Rarities

Boundless already has hints of an item rarity system with some items marked common/uncommon/rare. I want to suggest that this system be revisited and improved to the minimum bar met by other MMOs, as a way to help new and old players alike.

Nothing fancy, create your standard common/uncommon/rare/epic/mythic tier thing and color code them in the standard grey/green/blue/purple/orange. Name them something else, color them something else, make more of them, it doesn’t matter.

Here’s the advantages:

  1. Create a more visual way to tell the difference between trunk/wood and rock/stone. Telling these words apart is hard when you’re new. But if rock had a grey border and was marked common, and stone had a green border and was marked uncommon, everyone would know which comes from which.

  2. When the prestige system is eventually revisited and rebalanced, decorative blocks can have their prestige assigned to them based on what rarity they are. That way we can look at the items in our backpack and have an expectation of what prestige they’re worth.

  3. It signals an item’s worth to players who haven’t fully grokked the in-game economy. Is this roadrunner feather I got any good? I guess I’ll just throw it in the body part pile with the tallow and bone. Oh wait, it’s got a purple border so it must be really rare!

Grey border is typically for trash and junk, A white border would be in more line of how it works for other games for common item.
