I’ve been collecting bricks and stuff to build my main base, but I can’t figure out which planet I want it on. So I want to ask others how they choose?
Resources which did you move in for?
Good ping?
Beautiful environment?

A combination of enviroment and region.

As someone who lives in Australia, making a base on an EU world is a bad idea because of the high ping, so that already crosses out 1/3 of the worlds.

I think it comes down to what colors and terrain features your looking for to incorporate, or if your just looking for a large flat area to build on. If the latter is what you want, planet colors would be an important factor in deciding where to build.

Today I’m still undecided, I’ve been in 4 different worlds with home and shop and in the end you get tired and move with everything or at least I do, I prefer to have everything in one place

I had 2 main criteria: The tier of the planet and its scenery. I knew i didnt want aaany threats so i opted for tier 1 (also lower planets tend to be more beautiful - depending on my definition of beautiful- so both criteria went together kinda). I spent some time on different T1 planets and finally chose Gellis. As simple as this .

Edit: I forgot to mention the ping was acceptable on Gellis too. You have to make sure the ping isnt high because I made this mistake in EA.

I just moved near a bunch of awesome players that were building a city in US West. No real criteria for me other than low ping, active player base, and english speakers (I started out living with the germans super fun but slow communication can be tiring)

How can you check your ping in Game?

I wanted to construct this particular build on an earth-like planet and chose a tier 1 planet so the wildlife would leave me alone but the deciding factor was: is there enough room?
I chose Trior because I need at least 26x26 plots.

Have connection indicator in Network Settings set to “ALWAYS SHOW”, than look at the top right corner in-game.

The first time I chose the planet I landed on. But at launch this game was different and your settlement could be engulfed. That happened so I picked up and moved to a town with nice people in it. The town was really nice and the scenery was too. Now those people don’t really play anymore so I had to move again but this time I moved to a planet with my guild mates. So now I’m near people I know and people that play. We aren’t a bustling town but we have portals to get us to busy areas. So this time it worked out nicely for me.

I do have other “bases” but they are more like storage and because I wanted to build something. Tho they all do have the machines set up so if I need to craft there I can

Each of my alts have their home on a different World. They choose exclusively based on aesthetics of the location. Each alt, of course, has a different sense of aesthetic so each base is different. Some prefer higher-tiered Worlds and the more timorous prefer T1 Worlds.

I wish my alts could meet. I think most of them would get along nicely.

When my son started he spawned on Alder. I spawned around a week later on the same planet. We had our base there for less than a week, while I was adjusting to the game, first MMO, he moved to Tana VII He liked it there, I didn’t. Was the victim of a forced merge. We decided to move.
Where to? Several here said we could move to their settlement. I went to check them out and picked out three based on planet colors, Had to have lots of green and land, not all water and I did Not want to have to climb cliffs constantly. Didn’t mind hills, but cliffs and divided often by water, not even considered.
Narrowed it down to Seggy (can’t spell the name) and one other, let my son decide which one of the two. He liked Seggy and I have never regretted it. Exodus is the settlement. Wanted to be close to people who are nice, they are great, lots of flat land but plenty of green hills, has it. Water in the aspect of rivers, lakes, where you could walk out and not need a grapple to get around. Same, just swim up to the edge and walk out of the water.

I have a lighthouse (still working on it) on the water, my son built a tower on the water also. We just put up a portal to the settlement. If at the Ultima hub, go to the PS portal near where the bunny was, go through the Groviidas Te portal, see the one to Seginkai (can’t spell the name right) and when you go through the portal you will see on the right a line of small portals. Number 2 is the one to Exodus. There are a couple of others, one with the name of Exodus takes you inside what I think is to be the Guild Hall, but you may get lost, not sure if they have the directions up yet on how to get to the surface. Well worth checking itout, especially if you like Sci-fi.
Anyhow, for me it was color, plenty of green. The type of planet, no higher than a level 2, which is what Seggy is and hills, not cliffs. And rivers, lakes were a must.
I live in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in the US. Gotta have my hills.
Step out on the back of my base at night, look across the river to see green land, hills in the background, trees that have various shades of green and yellow. I look up and see stars and planets in the sky. A beautiful sight.

I picked my world based on me wanting,

A world that is in the region I live in, US-WEST

The highest Tier world I could build on that did not require any environmental protection skills, so my crafting alts could get to my main base right out of the gates with no problem

and at the time because it was a metal world, and I wanted to be able to mine on the same world but quickly discovered that mining on a T4 and higher world was simply much better.

And a low population world. Because I did not want to be locked out of my base if the server was full, Cap was 60 players at the time, not 80

Unfortunately the environment looks really bad.

Pics or it didn’t happen.

What, Barbie Pink is not your cup of tea? I can’t imagine.

I’ll see if I can figure out how to do pic and post them.

And Pink! I HATE that color with a passion. Why is it that everyone thinks all females like pink?

Yellow, that is my favorite, then blue, I like bright colors. Told hubby when we got our new home, the kitchen will be yellow. He picked out a pastel yellow. No! Bright, sunny yellow. Love my yellow kitchen.

When I was a newbie, the way I decided is to join a community settlement. You can simply choose a settlement to join and work with settlement residents to find a place that you can place your home. You will have access to that settlement facilities, portals hub, as well as guild previledges, if that settlement is led by a guild.

Hope that helps.

I stumbled across a massive, flat, empty of plots, ash field. No tree tops or messy terrain to waste plots

Also it was 1 block above the water.

Of course, now I’m sick of the sight of ash, so I turfed my whole base. Shame it doesn’t give me prestige; planting seeds is SO slow.

on release we landed on beckon so we did not see it from another planet so we did not notice all the freaking canals :joy:

I started on Beckon and moved to Finata. I wanted to be near the heart of things, by the hub, hoping to meet the most people. Ping and scenery were second to community for me.

I built my base on storis 2 so I could avoid the occasional lag issues I get on European servers.

I just stayed on the planet I started on, happy with it.
