Been spending some time playing D&D 3.5 lately, wanted to share a shot from my latest campaign
Any other fans out there?
Well I mostly play Pathfinder but d&d and 3.5 and pathfinder is rather close. (It is not for nothing it is called d&d 3.75 by some
)
Iām still very new to D&D so 3.5 is the only thing I know much about though after this campaign we have talked about doing others. Our DM really wants to play Shadow Run.
Just read up on Shadowrun, seems fun people die alot
how do you even play the game?
Sounds good to me! I like the idea of super high risk gameplay!
@sikerow all you really need is some dice and an imagination
Accordign to what I read the main strategy is: Donāt get into a fight, and if you do shoot first.
Cause getting shot with a gun kills you in most cases AND EVERYONE HAVE GUNS
Iāve always wanted to play, but I donāt think Iām old or mature enough to appreciate the game, why are there like 14 diceā¦?
Different abilities and actions require different dice, and some times multiple dice at once. Mostly the 20 sided dice (D20) is used for most decision making, but there is also a d12, a d10, a d8, a d6, and a d4. My characterās basic turn for example usually goes⦠roll D20 to determine if I hit my targets armor class (AC), if I roll an 18-20 I roll again to see if my hit is a critical strike. After I hit, I roll 2 d4 to determine my melee damage (double the result if I crit) then I roll a d6 for my spell damage (4x on a crit). In one attack phase I am rolling 3 different types of dice multiple times. It helps to have multiple dice so I donāt have to roll several times in a row.
You forgot d100 ^.^
Though that is mostly used by the GM anyway.
And it technically just 2 d10
Our DM rolls a d10% and a d10 to get 100.
Edit: derp, thatās what you said. Iām still mostly asleep
Well thats simple then
I began with AD&D, continued over to 3.0, 3.5 and then Pathfinder ⦠have over 150 books now at home which are more expansive then my car and my computer+hifi-stuff together ^^. Will never go away from pathfinder now, cuz it is the perfect D&D in my eyes. I only play some 3.5 sometimes with own written conversion rules to play old AD&D stuff (for example for my Dark Sun, Planescape oder other old campaigns).
I have the tile sets of the 4th edition (all boxes and expansions each two times) and use them with the Pathfinder Pawns, so yes, I looooooooooooooooove to do some dungeon crawls ^^
I also have about 20-25 other systems, while the biggest placeholders in my shelfs are Shadowrun (2nd and 3rd ed only of cause!), nWoD (Mage the most, but all Basic Books like Vampire, Werewolf, ā¦), Warhammer Fantasy RPG (1st and 2nd Ed only!) and the WH40k RPGs (all sourcebooks to Roguetrader and Dark Heresy, but also the most important to all other spinoffs).
Had taken 18 years to collect all those little precious bookies! ^^
Oh man WH40K⦠love it! I own a Blood Angel army, but love Chaosā style.
DnD 5th edition is a rather interesting system actually, they simplfied a lot of stuff making it very accesible, and slowed down the progess to focus more on roleplay.
Some parts have become a bit too simple by my opinion (sorcerer only have 2 bloodlines D: ), but all in all seems like a very nice retake on the classical setup.
I never played the tabletop strategy game, but nearly all PC games and the roleplaying systems. I for my part loooove the Adepta Sororitas (which would also be the only army I would think about to buy for the tabletop) and found some sympathy with the Inquisition ![]()
Japp, heard that as well and also had some looks into the books, but if I want slower progress and more RPG-feeling I play AD&D or my conversion rules, Also, I think some rules are to simplified, especially the skill system. But overall it is a loooot better then the 4th edition, which was āthe death of D&Dā in my eyes ![]()
It is great for getting new players into the genre I have multiple friends who struggled a bit with pathfinder but did very well with DnD Especially if you start adding additional books. (They made an amazing modular class system that works much better than pathfinders take some out and add something new archtype system)
Talkign about WH 40K I am reading the horus heresy by the time (Some of the people I play with on the forum i mentioned before said they where going to use the samed technique as Primarch Lorgar during his attack on Ultramar so I needed to do some research)
I think I got hooked on millitary sci-fi
Japp, true, itās really newbie friendly. Iām used to take the new World of Darkness rules or Warhammer Fantasy RPG for beginners, but if you want to have the D&D feeling 5th Ed is of cause the best choice
I have the First Edition D&D ruleset as a compendium with all rules of all rule addons in one book (over 400 pages ⦠nice size for a system that originaly came in small booklets ^^). That was also āquite basicā, but also unbalanced and racist if seen through modern eyes, cuz there were no classes and races as a combination, but only the classes. The races were like classes as well. You could be a human fighter, paladin, ranger, cleric, druid, mage, thief or bard ⦠OR an elf, dwarf, etc. Also, Only humans could level up to lvl 20. the other races stopped at lvl 12-14 and only got some āsmall addonsā when leveled again. I laughed a lot when I had read it the first time ^^
Ah well different times, The whole thing is kinda funny actually because even in most of the older fantasy worlds the other races was stronger and better than humans, humans just breed like bloody rabits so they are all over the place
