I quit playing the game - the grind is unreal

The game just isn’t fun anymore. I’ve been playing since it released on PS4 and it doesn’t feel like a game, it feels like a job.

You need to max out all the mining skills, then get 100+ Diamonds for Power Coils, then 30+ for each Diamond Tool, ect. and it’s mind-numbing compared to other survival crafting games.

In Minecraft, you only need 3 Diamonds for Diamond Tools without any Power Coils - they’re different games, but it just shows how extreme the grind is in Boundless. I don’t quite understand it.

The progression just feels really bad. I’m not trying to rush, I’ve put loads of time into the game, you’d think at some point the game should start to become easier, but this game is the opposite. It gets much harder and more grindy as you go, so it doesn’t ever feel like you’re making progress. I don’t understand the appeal.

We’ve all been there at some point. My to-do list is sooo long. I’m having more fun playing casually though and if I don’t reach my goal for the week oh well.

I feel your pain. Ive not long come back to this game and playing solo. I have just kinda hit a brick wall i need to start making coils or advanced coils but the materials I need is crazy and the thought of going out and grinding them all isnt appealing to me and i dont have enough coin to but them. Saying that im not afraid to spend hours mining items but ive just spent day upon day mining gems and getting very little in return, and im just a bit fed up with it.

Take bark for example I dunno if there is some secret or not but i had luck stat etc etc right up and I was barely getting any and the drop rate seemed to be the same from level 3 planets to level 6 for me.

I will probably stick with it but its just the thought of it all. You never know they might be changing stuff for the next major patch but who knows.

I for one love the grind. But tbh, this game is not really grindy, if played right. You could get all coils in hours if you put your mind to it, or just buy them over time :+1: Don’t give up just yet! You can do it!

Don’t forget to give away your stuff if you quit!

Remember that you do not have to do everything yourself and buy from others for items you don’t want to grind.

All games like this have a grind though if you want to get everything yourself. Right now you can buy advanced power coils for 3k each, hardly difficult to obtain a full set for all your machines.

Once you get to the stage where you are making and forging gem tools and weapons this game becomes very easy indeed, I went from mining maybe 50-60 gems at a time to hundreds with more rock and building materials than I could ever need.

Once the guild patch drops organisation and sharing of resources is going to make the grind even less.

It does seem crazy when you first attempt to take it on, but if you think about it, you only need to do it once. Then you have everything. The initial grind can seem daunting, but it really isn’t. I managed to get 1k-3k power on all of my machines before I ever even saw a gem block in the wild.

I did this early on by collecting and selling leaves, then eventually by going on the group hunts and selling my oortstone. The oortstone was way better than the leaves. And I did this all before the massive price drop in coils. I was spending about 15-20k per coil! Good lord. Now they are so cheap. You could easily go on one hunt and be able to afford 10 advanced coils.

Once you have the coils, you wont need nearly as many gems if you’re just trying to make tools/weapons.

Relax. Soon they’ll have Footfall fixed.

Footfall is the ultimate in game mechanics for a certain demographic: you get a trophy just for someone else showing up.

If any lower level players are having trouble getting money or materials, let me know. I can show you some good gathering spots, and where good request baskets can be found or what players are good to do deals with. We have mines which you can use (as do others I know). Also, if you need, there are lots of tricks. Once you learn a few of these, the game is much easier, even if you’re solo’ing it… Feel free to contact me. My motivation is two fold. I like seeing people “win” and I like seeing this game succeed. Have fun!

I just wanted to add to everyone that feels like this game is to grindy, and that it is not fun anymore, that this is by far one of the least grindiest mmo’s I’ve played. I remember playing roughly a year to get max level characters on over a dozen games. And I play a lot of hours gaming.

To me there are more people who find it not as fun due to having already done everything and are bored. In 4 months I now have several level 50’s and can craft anything I ever could want in the game. Honestly I feel like it could take longer even and still be an okay grind. But I am happy with it now.

I remember buying the 100 dollar steering wheel for Grand Tourismo and Forza. So excited and played a lot. Then I plugged in the cheats to get the cars I normally would have to grind to get, and had about 20 more hours of fun, and then sold my wheel and never played again. With out a grind, there is no game. If you get into a rush to craft all machines and coils, what are you going to do when you get them all?

What happens to other players when they finally get to where they can make anything and have all their coils??,“coils only 7k” , then boredom, then shop stands not being filled, then “taking a break for a while”, then “this game sucks and is boring”.

There are a lot of other games with less rewards and larger punishments and longer grinds. They don’t have a problem with people playing them. In most cases games with more substance in their crafting, have longer lives and a more dedicated player base.

I just realized today that machines cap out at like 7,200 power. I was all geared up and ready to grind to 18,000 power each. Now what am I supposed to for the next month lol :joy:

The grind for coils does seem harsh at first. I bought most of mine. I sold iron ore and ortstone mostly. Once I had around 1500 power on each machine I saved my coin for a good 3x3 hammer and persisting pies. I used public mines at first. I get 4 or 5 mining sessions from each tool. Depending on gem type you can get 80 - 200 or more gems per session. My goal is 80. That’s a bulk craft of compact gems. Enough for a bulk craft of power coils.

I am happy to show you exactly how and where if you like.

I promise, as soon as you get past the power coil wall the game doesnt feel grindy.

Im 1k hours in. Have multiple of all machines fully powered. And still see no point other than just build and gather. Ive grown very bored with boundless as well. Once you get to a certain point its just rinse wash repeat over and over again. Ive got highest fuel on my places and will check them once its closer to that time of burning out and see if anythings changed. But i find it hard to believe there will be much of interest even then. So ill prob be giving away a 800k prestige place aroumd that time.

I’m sorry to hear that though I see a lot of people complain of the grind I have yet to personally feel it.
Then again I enjoy mindlessly just smashing away and trees, gleam and other things.
Personally I will prob never make my own coils I just buy advanced coils. Then go back to my collecting :joy:

I made my own first couple of sets of advanced power coils but now I’m just buying the ones I still need whenever I get a few thousand coin to spare, still need quite a few so no rush. At the moment I’m just gathering resources and gradually crafting as many forge ingredients as I can before I give it a go. I have no end of building ideas to keep me going so whenever I get bored of the gathering/mining grind I just go back to building. The more I build and explore the more ideas I get and want to incorporate into what I’m doing. I think I’ve played about 1.5k of hours so far and don’t really see myself stopping any time soon. I try to just find things that I enjoy doing rather than rushing to be the biggest and best etc as I’ve seen some people seem to do and then burn themselves out. Hopefully when some more real content is added it will bring back more players.
