I wonder how well Boundless will run on the Steam Deck

:::blinks::: wow this will be interesting, I’ve been wanting to break free of the limitations using a Mac causes, but without needing Windows… oooh la la la la la

My only question is about connectivity strength via wireless without the dock.

It’s only Wi-Fi 5, but that should be enough … Although only at short throws.

Honestly I keep considering wanting to order one just because of Boundless - I have some other games on steam but I mostly play on my PS4 however with many other titles come out around the corner the idea of having Boundless on a handheld sounds more and more tempting by the day!!

That is the main issue I am running into right now is my friends want to play Aliens: Fireteam and I want to be a good friend and play with them but I would also like to play Boundless LOL

Just announced on the last Nintendo direct NMS is coming to Nintendo switch probably a cloud version who knows , can we hope for a Boundless Nintendo switch version now? :joy::joy:

I was so hyped by the announcement yesterday! But I’ll admit at the same time I’m asking the question pretty much everyone is - HOW? :hushed: Even on PS4 and Xbox One it seems to struggle at times. And with the Switch, well, I even have had a number of problems with Minecraft on it! Maybe they’ve figured out ways to optimize, perhaps improvements will come for the others with it at well? I hope it isn’t a cloud version as I’d like to be able to play it when not in WiFi range too.

Edit: They answered some of it themselves on their site - No Man’s Sky Nintendo Switch Edition - No Man’s Sky (nomanssky.com)

Although I got my Steam Deck preorder in really quick and am SUPPOSED to get it this month, I wonder if I might end up playing NMS on the go on the Switch first. I’m starting to suspect it might get pushed back further due to delays. Boundless will be the first game I’ll test on it when I do get it though!

… So much for supposed to get it this month, at last check before the emails went out Friday I looked and saw I got pushed back to Q2. Paka is :imp:. I wonder how many actually went out?

Anybody here get lucky and get the email to buy one Friday?

This would be incredible if it happens, by the way - Valve says it’s willing to help Microsoft bring PC Game Pass to Steam | VGC (videogameschronicle.com) Have both Steam and Game Pass libraries on one handheld.

I just play on the PC or laptop these days. Seeing how both are on PC.

I do know Boundless runs fine on Steam Deck as Doom Eternal gets a smooth 60fps. For the price I opted to just put together a new PC with a lot more oomph.

I got bumped to “after Q2 2022” too.

The Steam Deck runs Linux, so the Boundless client will be running under (WINE-style) emulation. The Deck has pretty decent specs so I wouldn’t anticipate any trouble. I look forward to looking around a new Exo using the gyro input: next best thing to VR but without the eyestrain and vertigo.

I’m wondering if some shenanigans went on with the orders… read in a reply to me that they got in one minute after and also got bumped to Q2, while some that were in later got Q1.

Because my distance vision is going but I don’t like wearing my glasses, I look forward to chilling in bed or comfy papasan chair with it, like I do with my Switch. The dock isn’t out yet, but once I have both it and the deck, if everything works ok, AND they do partner with MS there, I might just use that and put off a next gen console for awhile. Though if I can get a series X for retail I might still bite… I’m pretty well sold on going Xbox rather than Sony now. I could pay a scalper but it is the principle for me, plus, I’ve got TONS to keep me busy.

Another advantage to the Steam Deck is, my wired connection at home is probably at least 20x slower than wireless at work, and when I download at home it slows down anything else we try to do. With Steam Deck, could just bring it to work, download, bring home, dock it if I want to play on the TV or just chill laying down with it. I COULD bring in my consoles and download stuff here but a ton more hassle.

Anyone had some experience with this yet ? :stuck_out_tongue: or am I just poking everyone that got delayed in delivery ?

I just posted on the Steam Deck forum asking about compatibility testing, with some proper Boundless namedropping, and someone pointed me to ProtonDB. Seems like it’s just a site where people rate how well things work on Linux and I guess that’s what Steam Deck runs on (?), so its gold rating on that site should carry over to the Deck, if I understand correctly…

Ok, got my notification and just paid for mine! So hopefully will be able to give some feedback and maybe video in a week or so.

Glad I wasn’t on the tail end of Q2 since I’ll probably head off on vacation in June. Now, when our beach stay gets all rained out by some tropical storm, I’ll have this to play at least… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Gosh dang it all, I’m seeing “Q2 22 (late July or August)” for mine. Colour me jealous.

Well, good news and bad news.

Good - Got my Steam Deck earlier than expected! In my office now where the WiFi is way faster than home, downloading a bunch onto it. Love what I see of it so far, looks great, feels comfortable, and very intuitive.

The Bad - Hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but appears that Boundless doesn’t work on it at all. :frowning: Gets to where it says “pakathecat LOGGED IN” spins for awhile then times out saying it can’t connect to the server. Drat.

Drat! I guess I’ll skip getting one, then. I’m assuming there would need to be a patch to make the game run on it. I can’t see that happening. :worried:
