I do not hunt meteors, I hunt decaying bases. I have only been playing this gave for 5 months and have never crafted more than a handful of items. Through my hunts, I have amassed over 400,000 in coin, more sets of coils than I can ever use, thousands of blocks, AOE hammers, tools, weapons, all sorts of things. I have so much stuff I do not know what to do with it some of it. My best haul so far was when I cracked open a shop stand and 70K in coin fell out. Yeahh!!!
Hunting meteors is alright, but nothing is better than the suspense I get when I am ripping down a beacon-less base. Looking over my shoulder, checking the compass to see if anyone is approaching. I love it.
I thought about starting a town called Pirate Bay where I could organize daily base/loot hunts. But I would hate to share my spoils
I used to hunt for beacons to scavenge but dealing with all that loot got to be overwhelming. Lots of players do/did this and it can be a great way to jump ahead of some of the early grind. And it’s better it gets salvaged and used than regen to nothing.
It depends on the nature of the scavenging. Nothing wrong with taking the things, and many will tell you that ‘if they let it get to a point where their beacon has expired, it’s their own fault’, but me personally, I take a more forgiving and understanding approach.
If it’s someone I know, I’ll take their things and hold onto them - put them in a place where they’re safe.
If it’s someone I don’t know, I’d take their things, hold onto them, post a notice on the forums, then wait. If they weren’t claimed after a couple weeks, I’d consider them fair game.
There is a fine line between scavenging and hoping for lady luck to smile on you, and those who use bots, scripts, and other programs to record beacon timers down to the second to insure they snatch up bases the moment they expire. They may even loot their fill and return the recovered beacons to settlement owners or the negligent player. I consider that extortion. If I had my way, those people would be permanently banned.
Too nice for the business world, that’s for sure! Have at it though - you’re not breaking any rules. As for the ethics of it? It it’s a game after all, so I wouldn’t get too hung up.
A lot of people do that, they all feel bad about doing it, I ran into people in the middle of ransacking a building and they scattered when I ask what was happening here. Then I followed by finishing up what they started
Suspense is waiting for a beacon to go out that you know other players are actively keeping an eye on. I was taking the train home one day watching a players Twitch stream as they kept checking a beacon I was after. Sadly for them they were on a hunt when the beacon went out. My brothers were able to claim it.
