I’ve just stumbled on this construct in Lamblis Shopping area and can’t help but think that it’s a bit of an eyesore considering the buildings surrounding it.
I play with my 11 yr old and I hope he has not seen this. I don’t know how to keep him from stumbling across it. In our house, that is inappropriate. I hate to say it but I wish that were not built.
It will be addressed on Monday when the devs are back in. It’s been flagged as it’s not appropriate content for the Boundless universe.
Do I get it right? Killing creatures is “family-friendly”, but pink neon is not?
On the other hand we live in a world where there are countries which allow 18 year old kid can go to war/conflict/call_it_what_you_wish and kill people, but they forbid them from drinking alcohol.
I won’t start a debate in this thread although I’d love to go 8 rounds with you. Point is, the content must match the esrb rating. We all pretended to kill ugly alien monsters as young children. Sexualization of women is toxic and it should not pervade a family game. Let’s stick to the issue at hand and not use generalizations please.
The difference in Boundless is that you do not see any blood, guts and gore spilling out of the creature as you’re killing it (granted, once defeated you do see organs and such pop out, but you can generally see those same organs in any butchers shop IRL).
You need to remember that Boundless is not just played by adults - it also has a much younger audience. So any buildings that depict scenes of a sexual nature, or in this case, having sexual connotations are not really permitted nor welcome.
And you don’t see issue here, that we are taught and allowed violence from the early childhood?
If that is your argument, one could argue, that you see same pink neons IRL…
I really don’t care about this or that being removed on not. If I was to troll hard, I’d started topic, how a religious building (but not my religion), like the cathedral from post above does offend my religious believes, whatever they may be. I’m really sad, that the violence everywhere became a norm, but sexuality is something to be forbidden and taboo. I really, really hate the bigotry, which is much worse issue than the sexuality, especially, when the problem is a pink letters CLUB, and something that just slightly resembles a human figure. It’s being made sexual in nature, because some people choose to believe that this pink gleam is sexual in nature, and not because it objectively is. And they will have it’s way, because giving them they way it’s the simplest solution, not the right one.
Anyway ESBR, is an american thingie. And from what I know, Steam does not enforces this. So ESBR argument is invalid anyway.
I think the image that “slightly resembles a human figure”, depicted on building is quite unmistakable - which is why we’re having this discussion.
The pink gleam itself is not the main issue. The image it depicts is. It’s the use of this particular colour and that image, which is used in the real world to objectify women.
That may well be the case… Steam would not be enforcing anything in the Boundless universe anyway… Wonderstruck, however, will be.
That is not the topic at hand. The exploitation of women in gaming is a real reported issue. You appear to me to be trying to drive the conversation away from the sexual nature of the sign and to another issue entirely. If you feel the game is too violent, then please start a post about it. Otherwise stay on topic please.
You are applying a very very loose interpretation of violence to Boundless. I grew up on galaga and duck Hunter and my mind never registered that as violence. There is a primal instinct in mankinf to hunt for survival and defend his homestead, this is not violence, it is nature. Boundless is not “fps”, it’s not going to groom the next school shooter, it’s a cute builder.
Sexuality is beautiful and pure in itself. But the club building obviously implies a strip club, let’s be real here. This is an objectification that I have a right as a parent to protest in order to preserve my young sons mind.
Now that is how you stay on topic and don’t generalize.
Going into a supermarket is you giving your consent to be advertised to by that corporations standard policy and practice. You can boycot specific stores.
Is it really that bad? A child can watch a tv ad showing 90% naked woman taking a shower, this is not as much offensive for me. If there was a phrase “café for relaxed women” nobody would say a thing.
No, it’s not that bad, it’s funny actually. And if the devs choose to leave it, I will respect their decision and avoid that place. My only dog in this hunt here is that the content we manufacture must also abide by the very terms we agreed to to play under the age policy that is in place.
Hey this is just a girl laying on the beach at their club house (beach club). Nothing to worry about
But yes, content must be child compatible, otherwise it will result in ■■■■ storm (maybe parents).l and negativ PR.
I also would add it’s on the edge of being acceptable, but in this form it’s not harmful
I see no problem with it personally, but it does highlight why we need a list of rules outlining what is and is not acceptable.
Look at it this way folks, we want this game to do as well as possible at market. I am just one parent and I LOVE THE GAME. So let’s make sure we are giving everyone the best impression possible of Boundless.
The developers do need to take a position and let us know what is acceptable. Is it ok to have phallic statues in every capital city? To have statues of women in suggestive poses at the gates to the portal hubs? When is enough, enough. Where is the line?
I think the last thing we need is the game rated as M or A by the ESRB
… to bring levity… Why is she human anyways?
To be honest i was mainly just disappointed that someone would build a giant black cube next to such nice architecture. The depiction just made it worse
