I love emotes for communication. Destiny is a good example of this: can chat and talk to people privately out of game, can emote to everyone in game (everyone seems nice when they emote)
Jepp, but communications without a normal chat or voip is just dull and removes the feeling of realy working together. That would be a partial death of the feeling I hope to have when playing the game. Also you could not ask questions to strangers or even get some basic connections to them when they are not just next to you … No chat = no real interaction.

It always depends on the community. If people want to be mean they will be. Even if you only have 6 emotes with the very basics of what you can say. *cough* HearthStone *cough*
It’s not the lack of communication that makes the “conversations” more friendly, it’s that the people want to be nice, and they’d also be nice with a fulfledged chat.
