Logging into boundless on hospital wifi

I’m trying to play boundless whilst stuck in hospital, but something about the hospitals wifi is not letting the game connect. When I checked the links in the below post i was able to connect to the game server, but the discovery server link wont load, anyone got any ideas why this may be and if there is a way around it?

Would a VPN do the trick?

Kind regards,

If you are on any kind of large network controlled by a company (the hospital) and it does not let you do something like connect to a game, it is very likely intentional. Trying to get around the block can result in you getting into trouble with the hospital. I would recommend not trying to get around the issue.

I know it means no playing Boundless and being bored, but it is not your network, it is the hospital’s. They pay for it and set up the access and QoS rules for it. So, it is there to control how they want.

Yeah sure, I just assumed they did not mean to block boundless as other games run ok, but maybe the powers that be know the sinister truth behind the voxel vail… I have just bought a sim-card with better internet to use instead, should arrive soon. x

Honestly I’d highly recommend trying to ask a nurse or someone about it. I’m sure they’ve had tons of patients there that have been there long term and asked them about playing multiplayer games. There’s a decent chance they will immediately know the issue and let you know if it’s fixable or not.

First thing i tried, they have no idea, other than it being something to do with blocking torrents or something, which obviously makes no sense, they said discord was blocked because of some of the antisocial channels…

I didnt push to ask to speak to it as I assume its not something they have in the building… it must use the same port as something they feel is malicious.

not the it that runs their computers…

It is not that they would be trying to block Boundless specifically, not necessarily “all games”, it would be more along the lines of “this game uses technology that can harm our networks” so it is getting blocked as a result.

Some examples/ideas:

EVE Online use to exclusive uses P2P (BitTorrent) to download updates/the game. This is very commonly blocked on large networks because that tech can also be used to pirate software/media and it is consumes a lot of bandwidth which can hurt others trying to use the network.

Boundless uses Websockets to communicate with the servers. Many other games use UDP instead. Websockets are long-lived persistent connections, which could cause issues and additional load to poor designed networks or older ones.

Excellent explanation thanks, I’m staying at the NHS who ramped up their network security after a ransomware attack so makes complete sense, I’d tell the nurses if I thought they would be interested…
