It would be really nice if trees fell when you took out the bottom block. Kind of like the tree feller mod from Minecraft, since that’s something mostly everyone here would be familiar with. The time/durability taken would be scaled appropriately.
Also, it would be nice if leaf blocks decayed on their own, or when a tree is knocked down. Keep from having to build all kinds of scaffolding to completely remove a tree.
I still don’t understand people’s desire for this mechanic when you can essentially make an entire mountain float, by cutting the bottom off, and everyone is fine with it
It can’t be realism people are asking for in that case
Who’s to say that a reality-wide gravity force isn’t something that some people would like to see? Perhaps a toggled option on private server-worlds? I think it could be an interesting and complex mechanic that could add a lot to gameplay.
I do also think that its probably computationally prohibitive server-wise, unfortunately.
Esp. since even water blocks still don’t really behave as they should – i.e. waterfalls that stop at the plot-line and just refuse to fall any further until you modify the terrain around them to force a recalculation.
Actually, I would LOVE for the whole thing to collapse. With the same basis that I want a
What I read when I first was researching this game was that there was going to be something that allowed for floating buildings, if you were brave enough to get the material for it. In fact, I would love for things to break if they are over extended, or fall down if you apply pressure, etc. But I know that there is a limitation to what the game can do, versus what I would like to see. So, with that in mind, I would love it if trees fell, didn’t spawn leaves if the roots were removed, and then we would fix a bunch of problems that we are currently facing. I mean, this is just my opinion.
Also, you got no idea how much I wish a fluid system was in place. Pumping, overflowing, finite water sources, pressure related physics, and even cooling or heat transfer would just make everything feel more alive. But that, as Mario Sunshine tried to illustrate (and failed at), just isn’t really feasible. Even if there are seemingly simple rules in place in life, it’s vastly complicated, and difficult to reproduce in a gaming environment.
These topics have been touched before. I don’t remember word for word but I did read the devs stated the whole tree in one swing is to op (even when accounting for energy and wear and tear). However the leaf decay they are thinking about adding. But this was like 5 months ago so idk where they are at with this.
I think it would be pretty cool if we could build things such as the guardians and have them as our own city I would also love to see a Non enemy spawning guardian just for the fun of grappling
I’m not sure anyone who would like to see that realizes that large majority of our builds would crash instantly if something like that was implemented. There would have to be special type of blocks that would form support beams that would allow openings or ceilings. Building in such environment would probably soon stop being fun. Though it would be interesting experiment in another game that has that as a sole purpose, in game that wants to be some other things also I don’t think it would work well for majority of players.
Beside building, mining would be harder - imagine cave crashing on you after you remove some block that you shouldn’t, or cutting tree makes it fall on you Sounds fun (not joking)
I’d be down to see it all crumble. Because some people just want to sit and watch the world burn. But! I think making physical limitations a norm would still be fun. It would allow people to build and construct environments where people could push the limits. I want to see that happen.
I think trees are the part of the game that is sub-par in quality, it cashes too much Minecraft there and not in the good way.
If you look at the game Eco Global Survival they do got really nice take on trees, they are their own objects not blocks, yet you can still axe folliage, branches, etc… or completely take the tree down and it does indeed fall:
So I’d poke the Boundless devs to have a look at that, I think if the trees got one design overhaul from made of blocks to something like that, it would benefit quite a lot the game, especially visually and even on gameplay, it would make possible to say, collect seeds and plant trees.
Which is why I thought it should be a per-world or private server toggled option.
I havent played it in a while, but I believe 7 Days To Die has material strength and such and calculates how one block can or cannot support another. But, it also doesnt have to calculate anywhere near as many blocks as a single Boundless world would be. Like I said, its probably computationally infeasible, even if only sectors with active players were calculated in real-time.
Not sure I agree it wouldnt be fun, but Im really not suggesting changing the world physics at this point even if it were possible, at least not on current worlds. More of a ‘maybe someday’ kind of wish
7 days to die does in fact have structural integrity. It only calculates for active chunks ans can still bee a huge performance killer depending on the number of blocks it has to calculate for. Even in sp big builds can cause performance hits due to the computations required. An mmo would be technically infeasible to have a similar mechanic imo.
Personally I hate floating things in the sky. To me they are essentially pollution and ugly. So, I only build where none of them can be seen and generally stay away from those (so if businesses are there too bad as you won’t get any business from me or anyone like me). I would love to see trees come down or drop down lower when the base is cut out. Same with any item floating, if it has no supports then I wish gravity would bring it down.
