How hard is it to create a mirror mode for tricky building?
like water surface reflection works now, but in a placeable block?
No. I mean dividing a plot in half, and whatever blocks are placed on one side, the other half mirrors it, and placed a block as well. Given that you have enough blocks to place them equally on each half.
well there is no hazy see through block like grey stained glass in minecraft to create a glass effect, to make it look like a mirror is there.
so you mean a “Symmetrical Construction Mode”
Sounds like quite a bit of work. We would need some way for you to define where the mirror line is. The maths for placement is pretty easy. But:
- What do we do if you already have a block there on the other side?
- How do you toggle the mode on and off?
- What happens if you only have 1 block to place (this would require 2)?
- How far away can the mirrored block placement be? (any more than 64m block placement is not supported at the moment)
We do actually have a set of tools (just for developers at the moment) for copy/paste, flip, rotate and fill. But these all run from command line arguments (not very user friendly!) and require being able to fly to actually use them efficiently.
i belive @Zina was more single-plot or between 2 adjacent plots oriented, for details… and i would agree more on that than on something covering multiple plots, it would not help details but huge monster buildings xD
- doesn’t let you put the block, giving a warning message (same as when you try to put a block but a creature is on that spot)
- with a tool similar to the plotting tool (when you point the plotting tool on a plot it already shows central lines)
- same as point 1) but with a different message, it doesn’t place any block, if you want to place it you have to esc the “Symmetry mode”
- inside a single plot, so it ill be max 8
i would like something like:
there could be a tool, similar to a “plotting tool” that let you put down up to 2 axis of symmetry (perpendicular), on a single plot so it would have 4 ticks: 1) only orizontal; 2) orizontal + vertical; 3) only vertical; 4) none.
the symmetry lines are on a orizontal plan and cover all the 8 orizontal level/plans of a plot
being a plot 8x8x8 the symmetry lines will always be between the 2 central blocks
the symmetry lines will be visible only for the beacon owner (and those who have permissions)
toggling plots view off (“B” key) wil reset symmetry lines
So instead of a world spammed over with rectangle towers, we then see a world spammed over with symetric towers?
@dave , @Tarahyumaro , Correct. I am a moderator in Robocraft. There they have a system with mirror mode, click M toggle on off. If you are missing the required blocks then it doesn’t place.
I originally meant all within one plot size. But would be cool if it can be done with 2 joining plots. (Iwouldnt give option to where the center line would be. Either the middle of one plot or the middle of two plots).
In Robocraft there is flymode. It’s a voxel robot /fighting/building game. There you have garage bays that are fixed in size and within in it, in build mode it can mirror. The Line is already set as in the middle of the bay. I was thinking here, would be cool if within a plot or the center of two plots. More than this would be quite problematic I would think.
We don’t need fly mode, with grapples really.
Also in Robocraft they have a ton of items that can be attach to the build. So it always had problems where mirror mode didn’t quite match things up right. But Here we just have blocks. Given we get to shape our blocks. But seemed it would be easier to do here. Making a face, or statues at angles, and for them to come out right is a very very very time consuming thing sometimes.
I’ve seen your sculptures in front of the Gemporium, they are amazing! I suggest everybody to go there and see them then @PiratenBraut will understand that a symmetric/mirror mode, within a single/double plot, it’s meant for details and not for single plot towers (still if someone wnat to use it this way…)
I’d say: the most important part of this is about block modification (chisels&bevels) in small local context (8x8 blocks), as Zina said: for details, protruding decors, multileveled walls, etc
yes that would help alot =) for creating doors, roofs, scupltures and things like that.
