Mixed Reviews and Early Access cost

it would be great if more people bought it, but i just personally think that its better to let people slowly join in as the game gets in a state they are willing to pay for rather than trying to force people to buy the game which tends to result in more people who arent interested getting it which means more people to downvote the game

@Squidgy,he does YouTube,as seen by his YouTube award,he has 15 Oort videos. The last one he has is boring. Sorry squidgy, but it is. Why is that?.. It’s because the new update has not come out, and I’m not blaming anyone for that. But if it had come out three weeks earlier, video be a lot more interesting. The point of me saying this is that the more people who know about it,and the more accessible it is,the more money we bring in. The more money we bring in, the more progress we can make quitter, the more progress we make quicker, the faster the game comes out, the faster it makes everyone more happy.
Side note:The more people know about it, the more advertisement the game can get …
Why did Minecraft you so well?
Because people have never seen what Minecraft did better, what I mean by this is……Minecraft was the first, was one of the best and still is voxel games there are. Oort online, is a adaptation of Minecraft… and don’t go crazy on me, I didn’t say it was a clone, just an adaptation. It’s taking what Minecraft did and making it infinitely better, all the things they did wrong, Oort online is doing correctly, everything Minecraft did great at, online is doing amazing at. This is not a game that videos of it should be considered boring, this is a game that videos should be considered exciting. And the only way to inshore Oort online’s amazement, and funding is, to drop the prices. As you can see people know about this game, enough to push it through to the next stage. But the prices need to drop for this to happen. No matter how slow the developers think it’s going to go, or how fast I think it’s going to go, it needs to make progress, whether it’s slow or fast. This game, the way it should be going, should be everywhere. Just like Minecraft was, there are over a million people who play Minecraft,we are taking that billion dollar game, and is making better.

As an American, I will be suing you for writing that. :stuck_out_tongue: I can be mollified by any of the following: :fries: :pizza: :ice_cream:

To drop the price permanently would send the wrong sign, but like already mentioned a steam sale for a week after the great update (15%) would give a nice bonus without losing the face. But later, if it is released (with still features coming in the future) the price will drop and produce the waves of users you think we are needing now. It’s a long time project, so give it time… Even if it will take a long time :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Ultimately, the best way to combat bad reviews is (drumroll) make and release a better game. No surprises there, obviously. The negative reviews are disappointing considering the disclaimers, but in many ways they’re also fair – there needs to be more ‘game’ in our game long term to justify a purchase.

Our biggest release is just round the corner (and we still have plenty of announcements left for 2015), so be ready to amplify our efforts if you want to help out, and help us build a bigger, better community soon!

Not permanently, maybe half a year to some people start getting into it.

Well in my opinion after being this long in early access the game itself should have more to show for it than just a really good plan of action a few cool concepts and a few monsters. This is generally where people lose faith in early access because games have been released on steam and never finished with a bunch of unfulfilled promises and whatnot and the pace of development for oort online being suspiciously slow dosent really help, need i remind people of the ea mess that was planetary annihilation? or however many other games that have been released on early access through steam and never finished? I have high hopes for oort online but i also believe that there should be a little more content in the game at this stage at the very least give the community updates to keep everyone interested.

No offence taken, I almost didn’t post that one.

No, more money does not mean faster development. More money means more thoroughly developed and more content. Oort is coming out in a fairly rapid fashion by comparison to many other top tier games. Some that may be in development for so long, the early work has to be scrapped and remade to fit with the later work.

Also, not true. Before MC, there was a voxel game called Infiniminer. This game had a decent following but ultimately failed. Notch was one of those followers.

I’d like to point out that Oort has multiple revenue streams (sources of income for development) and that Steam sales are not the bulk. Also, as you linked in the image above, the launch of the game will see the price drop to $15. The current $35 is based on backing the development of the game and supporting the servers.

Ummm…seems I was ill informed. And I apologize for the spelling errors.

For point 1:
It won’t make it go any slower, and if they had extra( which I doubt)they could use it for advertisement.
Point 2:
I didn’t mean it literally, but Minecraft was the first to get as big as it did. And it didn’t fail, and I hope neither will Oort online,
Point 3:
Ture, but so did a lot of other early access games, and like cube world it failed. Also, just because Oort has multiple incomes, doesn’t mean backers with more won’t help. I mean I’m not asking for a 99.9% drop on the prices, just enough to where the people who are interested in buying it but can’t,because it’s a little much for early access game, can.

i can see this game failing and somebody coming out with a similar idea and succeeding.

I doubt it, the game and it’s dev team seems to be rapidly growing, not slowing. Things will pick up more after a large content update or two.

Mixed reviews because people all their money, hopes and dreams into a game and expect payout by tomorrow without even reading the “fine print” ofthe contract per say, this shouldint even be a post tbh because the people who make those reviews are the same people who

A. Played VANILLA minecraft once

B. Play minecraft alot but no mods

Their opinions are shallow, everyone knows the second content that majority populi want, or some random high ranking youtuber plays it and all of a sudden everyone loves the game people they pointed out the same reason we love the game without someones opinion on it, the game wont get popular.

I.e people who say " i never saw the game like that until Xxxxx played it, even though the entire game populi has seen it that way and i just wanted someome big to justify my reason to play oort"

Ok,but if that doesn’t happen?
What if 2-3-4 updates come out and we see the same results “it’s still to expensive”.

You will always see people complain about a game being too expensive because ultimately, people will always want more for less.
Look at another big game lately, Rocket League for example. They recently released a DLC for $4.00 including new cars, wheels, paint schemes, paint patterns, thrusters and more. At the same time they also released a new arena for free. Now perhaps some would say “they’re money grabbing and making me buy this new DLC! It’s too expensive!” when in fact the DLC is totally optional. The total cost of Rocket League WITH DLC? A whopping $24. The number one complaint about the game is still that it is too expensive.
In game development, just like any business, It’s not about the cost of the product, it’s about the quality and guest satisfaction. Sure, some people will even complain about the game costing $1 if it was dropped that low, but when a large consumer base is perfectly happy paying $35 for the same product, you don’t need to drop the prices.
If 2-4 updates later, people still claim the game is too expensive for them to enjoy it, then I would still advise them to figure their financial issues out, because they have bigger issues than a reduced cost on a $35 game can do for them.

Ok true, but Rocket League is a finished game.
We are in pre-alpha,we are now just getting to playable character models. Plus the 200,000+ that are going to write Oort off as another Minecraft clone.
And it’s early access,so for the first update where there’s some kind of RPG element in the game(1),I think reducing the price a little amount of 10-15 dollars wouldn’t hurt.

I also don’t think it would help, either though. It would then take many more supporters to reach goals, and I doubt it would make up for the diminished cost with enough new supporters. It will pick up some, but not many.

I know,I’m not asking for a permanent cost reduction, just for a few months,so we get some more backers.

That was suggested in another thread and already answered by some of us here. I can’t find the thread now but I will when I get back home.

Edit: found it
