Speaking as a fan of modded minecraft I can’t help but suggest the introduction of multi-block machines. You could implement a series of machine blocks (power core, batteries, reinforced iron/steel caseing etc) that have multiple arrangements to create large machines;
Portal Gate Dialers (think Stargate)
Water and Lava Pumps and aquaducts (could be used to fill defences or supply farms with water)
Defence turrets, shields and detection mechanics such as radar/sonar.
Excavators, Terrain Flatteners, Road Painters, Rail Networks and locomotives
Space Tethers to space stations
Market Houses with multiple buy and sells, even auction houses.
The list goes on and on
