New races - yes or no?

Most MMORPGs I’ve played have you select skills from a tree just like this game, as well as permit the use of alts. I don’t see how doing the exact opposite of this will make it any better.

I would agree it will not make it better. The developers intent may have been to have RPG elements but the players have insisted on being able to do everything and we got the introduction of alts and skill pages which works against the RPG element. I would think based on comments made that the RPG might have been originally part of what they wanted the game to be, but may not be any more. The last few times I have seen James describe the game he has called it an MMO Sandbox and not even mentioned RPG. But as long as the marketing materials mention RPG then it is very fair for players to assume that is a core part of the game.

Many of the RPGs I have played has both skill sets like Boundless PLUS some bonus dependent on which character species or whatever you choose… and Alts

That’s what the devlopers have in place.

Negative. In fact the necessity to have alts and skill pages means players still end up having to spec into specific roles in order to perform a function. Therefore, by technicality reasons, the game IS an MMORPG, because characters play a role in certain functions of the game. However, players wanted to be able to do everything solo, hence why we got skill pages and alts, otherwise the original design intent of the game is to have players depend on one another to fulfill their ultimate objective.

You have crafter characters to fulfill the role of crafting.
You have miner characters to filfill the role of mining.
And so on, and so forth.

Has nobody played an rpg where people have alts for different purposes? Maybe we aren’t playing the same games or something  haha

I cannot explain it further than this I’m afraid. If there are Roles in a game, and there is a Choice between Roles, that constitutes a Role Playing Game in its most basic definition. MMORPGs often either have Roles within your character, and many of them let you more or less freely swap between them (world of warcraft), and many MMORPGs are also classless (FF14, Runescape). I bring in Shop stands because they are like an auction house, a listing of goods that any other player can buy.

This was an instant cheer me up post. YES!
