Yep. Ben said that they werent satisfied with the idea and went back to reworking it or scrapping it.
I nearly closed this thread just now because when I read the title, my eyes skipped over the word “level”.

Anyhow, the devs have suggested that they have a mechanic designed that would keep advanced players and new players fairly in line and that there may not be a huge discrepancy between the two. Only a closer look at those mechanics can reveal how it will work at launch.
