I’m just curious if anyone will be playing this upon early access on Aug 15
Im just glad to see @bucfanpaka checking in still I hope all is well.
Thanks, you too!! Hanging in there, lot of fatigue but doing my usual: playing games and digging up rocks!
Oh, here is another I’m playing that I want to give a recommendation for -
Cease To Breathe on Steam (steampowered.com)
I like to support hidden indie gems, and to me it is a shame this game has so few players and zero attention. It won’t be for everybody - this is a pick if you enjoyed old-fashioned graphic adventures, particularly ones with funny/snarky writing that let you try about anything, like Uninvited, Shadowgate, ect. Dev describes it as a twisted mix of Uninvited and Maniac Mansion.
Had some absolute moments with it so far. At one point I hurt laughing because I did something really immature (I’ll avoid spoilers in case you play) and it popped an achievement. But, I’m stuck - and per the dev, nobody has managed to beat it yet. It is like childhood pre-internet days with being stumped in games like King’s Quest V since no guide I can turn to! So if you’re up for a challenge, give it a look. Some interactive objects are hard to discern, though.
Cannot tell how many times i have forgot the name of this game and searched “waylander” In YouTube
Starfield early access starts this evening! 8 pm EST it looks like!
I went ahead and bought a Series X.
Although others will be doing the same, I’m also going to go ahead and test on Steam Deck - even if it works, might not register the controller docked like some games, want to test that too. I’m not too picky about performance, more worried with it getting damaged from overheating. But if it works, it will be the easier option for bulk uploading screenshots, and give me a good option for offline play on the go. And there is the refund window if it doesn’t work at all.
I’ve watched enough of the leaked footage to say in general that I know now this is a game I’ll be playing for years.
I just wish it had MP
I wonder if some modder might pull it off eventually. I can’t wait to see what the modding community does with it, since entire planets can be added in.
Ok…I am sold. pre-loading now
Here is an article about it. There is so much potential because of this - modded planets devoted to other fiction’s lore, for example.
I’ve not seen anything from the game that makes me rue the fact my pc is not working or that I don’t have Xbox. I was disappointed when Bethesda were bought by Microsoft, because I have enjoyed their games - in spite of them always being a bug ridden mess - but nothing I’ve seen of Starfield so far makes me wish I could play it. I’m sure it will sell bucket loads and be a commercial success, though.
Modding is the only thing that will make me interested at this point.
I love Bethesda and most all of their previous game but having watched several hours of it on Twitch the game itself really didn’t live up to the hype. Doesn’t make the game bad, but it also doesn’t make it something I have any interest in.
Now where’s my red gleam?
I’m a bit behind on my play since wasn’t feeling well last night and went to bed early rather than a marathon gaming session, but from what I played, I really do enjoy it. However, I think the best comparison for the game is The Outer Worlds - it feels like a larger version of that game with more features. That the space travel is a bunch of menu choices doesn’t bother me, the one thing I’d really ding it for right now is the space combat. Same annoyance as in NMS combat, constantly spinning to try to glimpse an enemy ship and get a few shots before it zooms by me again, but worse. Feels clunky. But someone said it gets better with better ships… still, I’ll be sure to have it on Very Easy for any space travel, I don’t want to mess with it.
Great on my Series X, couldn’t get it working on Steam Deck though a few others could. Am seeing a lot of PC performance complaints.
My first character…
When I read your tweet mentioning the similarity to the NMS combat I thought that the space combat side might not be my cup of tea, too. Although, NMS you can now hold a control (I forget which button!) to automatically follow the ship you’re targeting, although it can still be a bit spinny if they’re a higher skill of pilot.
How does the story feel, so far? I’ve read some commenting that they’ve played a few hours and felt bored, but others are loving it. I think if the story and missions are good then a lot can be forgiven, which sums up the Bethesda experience really. They build a great story, but sometimes the bugs are really frustrating. I remember trying to play Fallout 3 on PS3 and the save game file kept getting larger and larger until there was huge lag. It was such a great game that I persisted, though, and even got the platinum trophy.
I am going off of watching a few streamers play it for about 15-20 hours straight here so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
The complaints I’ve seen are, the game is VERY empty if you watch the first video of Asmon playing it every planet is nearly just as empty as the one he shows there. Even the cities felt very empty and when there were actual NPCs it still felt lifeless. They could have thrown some law enforcement chasing people or something random every so often to make it more…alive.
Secondly, the AI is horrendous some shown in the first video again. Some NPCs just stand there, some get stuck in walls etc. etc. The companions who assist you (again in video) bug out very often and really other than the “Annoying Fan” companion which is hilarious they almost feel like no help at all.
Third, the story, one stream I watched enjoyed it, but someone in chat asked him what the story was about and he couldn’t really say other than some relics needed to be found for some reason. Another streamer I watch said “What story?”, as he said he just walks around talking to people and the story is very disjointed and pointless.
Lastly, The main issue was the game just isn’t fun. It’s not the story that makes it boring it the game play. There are many loading screens and fast traveling and when you combine the two it makes this vast universe they are trying to create seem tiny. If you are in a spaceship IN SPACE…you want to fly that ship to a planet or something you see and that doesn’t happen.
Overall, I wanted to like the game as I love all the Bethesda games (yes even Fallout 76), but the game and the hype around it created by Bethesda and others, just isn’t something I feel like playing.
One guy summed it up for me, if this is supposed to Fallout or Skyrim in space, and anyone says that’s what it is, never played the same Fallout or Skyrim everyone else did.
Modding will save it though, Im sure.
I’m enjoying it so far. It is like a space DLC for Fallout/Cyberpunk imo. It’s definitely not a NMS competitor or anything like that. I’ve experienced no bugs or issues on PC. It’s got lock-picking & computer hacking. Police/security do harass you a bit like they do in Cyberpunk. I’ve been arrested a couple of times lol. Your decisions matter. I’m currently building a couple of bases on different planets.
I’m currently playing an old MMO. It has released an optional hi-res pack and I’m having fun exploring all the content that’s been added since the first time I played it.
I haven’t seen much of Starfield, but if I’m being honest, that does sound a lot like my experience with Skyrim. Poorly balanced combat, bugs out the ears, every quest gives me narrative blueballs.
I’ll be playing it when it hits Gamepass, so no extra cost to me though
Still early, but I like it so far, I like the lore in general, though I don’t like what they did to Earth there… maybe could have come up with something different for that. Writing seems fine but nothing spectacular so far - really, so much similar to The Outer Worlds except that game was pretty extreme on social commentary (things are way more nuanced in Starfield), and like that game, great for a loot collector. Lot of cool decorative items so far, though clothing selection maybe could be better. I like the details in areas that are/were habitats, little notes and stuff, looks like a lot of thought went into that - though, the number of physical books and all given the tech seems a little odd, would think digital recording methods would be absolutely dominant and far more practical given transportation, added weight on ships and all.
