Star Trek style personal transporter for close range hops
So, a transporter itself being a machine placed in a chosen spot within your beacon.
Character would have a button, visually like a wearable, attached to the chest. Separate key bind to activate it (with animation showing hand touching the chest, where the button would be placed).
So, letās say within 200 or 300 or even 500 blocks(maybe 2 or 3 different range transporters available to craft?) of a placed machine, we would be warped to the machine (which would have a platform to land on as default warp in point).
When standing on that point we would be able to transport ourselves to any location or friend from the location and friend list that is within the transporter range.
I can already imagine that cool animation of my avatar disappearing in a mist of blue light-like particles and reappearing at the destination point.
This could replace 1x2 portals that are used to connect points in a settlement (far away parts of towns, underground base with portal hub on surface etc.) - saving oort for farther connection and bigger portals and even building.
I suppose transporters wouldnāt be allowed to overlap, so there is no confusion over which machine we jump to.
NOTE: Only 2 modes of transportation available: machine > location/friend and location > machine.
No jumping between 2 points outside machine but within the machine range (in other words, either starting point or destination should be the machine itself)
If the rules for portals were something like āif the destination for the portal is the in the same X/Y location as the other portal then its freeā so we can at least build elevators.
This could be done by allowing it to be free if in same chunk⦠gives a bit of flexibility on location but allows for mantle to max height elevators if needed since that is all in 1 āchunkā.
free portals sounds cool; elevators - Iām all for some machineryā¦
but none of it gives you possibility to jump from any point - you have to get to the portal/elevator and can only come out on the other side which is also location-fixed
with transporter only one end (the machine itself) has fixed location, while the other end of travel can be anywhere within its range
and portals we all know well - nothing new there
here you are getting the new cool disintegrating tool, coolly breaking you down (that animation could really be my favorite part of it lol) and then rebuilding your avatar on the otherend; again another cool animation - well, not so different, just reversed version of the former)
free small portals would mean them popping out all over towns and cities in numbers hard to control and thatās performance issues for many players (like when entering a hub packed with portals), especially when visiting different server regions
