I blame Jeff…
Blaming Jeff will never get old.
The whole concept of prestige was and is a failed attempt at removing 2 plot beacons that were spammed at that point by a wave of newcomers.
I’m still sad that beacon fuel even exists and that beacons can expire. So many awesome builds and so many hours invested by the whole playerbase went poof in most cases. Universe would so much more rich if we had all those great builds still around. Given the 2 plot beacons would still be around, but I’d be willing to ignore those.
I think some form of reclaim system was smart. The largest cost for the game is the building and the data involved with it. Saving that data and the transfer of that data is expensive.
That makes sense. Still doesn’t make it feel better
im happy with reclaim system and im happy beacond cannot last forever
can you imagine Biitula and finata today? with not even single plot available? full of ghost building left by players long abandoned game and never going back?
most of t1-2 planets were plotted to the core
I’m glad that beacons can expire. Yes, we’ve lost some great builds over the years. But that loss is because…those people quit playing. You’re blaming the system for players actions (or lack thereof).
In my first guild, we had people join, build in the settlement and then quit playing. We had to wait months for those beacons to expire and had to build around them. They took up settlement space that could have gone to more active players.
There was one house that was still there when everyone quit or moved on to other guilds. For over a year, that little house sat there in a reclaimed wilderness all by itself. According to the guild book, that person never logged back on. Just built a 2 plot house and left it there for 16 months.
Yeah, I agree that something needs to be done, but this is a terrible solution.
why?
i think reclaim is best solution
you forgot to fuel your beacon? moved away? got bored? wasnt able to play? quit game? you will never loose your items, you got all back as you come back and plant a new beacon, you got all your items back in reclaims
yes, there were awesome builds that dissapeared along with players that left but - life goes on, there will be another player and another build, you always can take screenshots if you want to remember
Having awesome builds in the universe is clearly an asset for the game. People investing 1000s of hours in creations should be valued more
I’m going to say something controversial.
If you’re too lazy to log in every 1, 2, or 4 months to fuel your beacon, you deserve to lose it.
im starting to think there are still players didnt know we have 16 weeks beacon fuel
I’m not talking about player’s perspective, I’m talking about value for game’s universe.
I’ve been using gleam club so it’s not bothering me as a player in any way.
imo universe full of ghost building without players has no value at all
what can you tell me about this?
I agree with your post, but did you ever see the old trailer? It very much promoted prestige wars and domination.
Sometimes the original idea doesn’t survive reality.
Ive never found any fun in the prestige, but I know others who have. It’s the game’s only PvP to me.
The prestige thing that allowed people with more prestige to butt up against your build and change the name of your settlement?
I’ll never understand that choice.
I remember that at the height of Brown Town, their hunt lodge on Cephonex, there was problems. Someone with more prestige took control and changed the name of their settlement.
So the next day, I went and built something there with enough prestige to change the settlement name.
I changed it to “(character name) is a prat.” It stayed that way until that person reclaimed their build.
Thinking about this more you could just buy 20 sovereigns every month. But pretty sure a sovereign costs more than that the server space and data it takes to run it.
On top of this there is no indication of what the coat to run the servers is and if I was Monumental I’d cut back on the servers and number of homeworlds. Current universe is overkill.
Then you get into the problem of what worlds to keep, what happens with everyone who now needs to re-build. You’d have to start a new universe from scratch, and there are many people who would never come back. It would basically end the game.
