No it means I literally got what was being advertised at the time when i bought the game.
It doesn’t invalidate your experience. It just means that things changed between the time that you came and the time that I came. Our experiences were not objectively the same so it’s not very likely that our expectations would be.
I’m telling you what they advertised all through EA and then when we got the news they were going to launch the game last September, we were all like “that’s awesome but where’s all the other stuff?”
I put 800 hours into EA alone. I"m over 1000 hours now in the game. I enjoy it but it’s not what was advertised for 1.0 even 8 months later.
i know the game isnt complete yet but i think it would be interesting the see the amount off time people played that comment its getting boring i think for some it is alot def need more enemys titans i can understand it will take time the concept is very difficult to implement and a bit to ambitious but the worm and the basher and the enemy that nestles inside rocks its about time they show up good thing half off you dont even know about them lol and is also about time we get pants but it doenst bother me to much somehow this game was made for me and i love it one thing i learned in boundless is half the game you need to make your own(love it) and ive been doing it quit succesfully also love that this game is pretty unique i think alot off you guys always wanted this game for along time but dont expect it to be perfect our completly what you want it we first need to tell the dev’s how we want it and thats one thing they do better then any other dev’s and that is listnen to the players so im there bigest fan sorry to tired to figured out points and capitals
also go way back to beginning look where they came from
they got ball s
We had a roadmap through EA. That roadmap included things not in the main release because the game got forced out early.
When Boundless launched officially on Steam and PS4, all that was advertised was in the game. Anyone who bought Boundless at launch and not in EA got exactly what was promised based on the store page.
This is correct. They had advertised a bunch of stuff to the EA folks all through EA and then pushed the game out early without a lot of it and we still don’t have a good chunk of it today.
Hah, don’t get me wrong - I love Boundless. But, you’re not all that wrong. They just need Titans, private planets and farming and I think they’d be good for the original 1.0.
I remember farming being described as post 1.0 early enough during beta times. Also titans I think are ok to be added later. However more creatures, furniture and such were I think expected by all EA players to be ready for full release.
The biggest issue for me was the lack of testing of progression of 8 tier world system. We never played it in EA and a lot of balancing was needed if it comes to availability of resources and how regeneration works.
Lack of testing also led to complete misjudgement of bomb mining and chiseling xp influence on leveling and getting resources.
One or two months of EA in the new universe and full release would have avoided those issues.
Anyways. It’s all water under the bridge now and the game seems to be going in the right direction.
I’m totally offended on your behalf. But just for a few minutes in tribute. Pre-release targets for crowdfunded software are like political promises though. Sometimes when a big bag of money hits the table you don’t get the chance to say “hey give me six months ok?”
This is way better than the product failing, and you can adjust your expectations, which are a subjective construct.
i came in october, logged in to find what was advertised, and the game has grown (in terms of content) ever since. Just passed 3000 hours of play and just paid for my second 180 day gleam club.
i have more time for ‘community’ chatter and idling around looking at stuff now. Subjectively, I’m ok with this and feel that the slips in priority and or timeline on the vague roadmap aren’t really worse than what I’ve experienced with other MMORPG style games.
That’s not really true. At least not in my case. I’m ‘arguing’ against an attempt to invalidate my experience or reframe it in such a way as to make it seem contrived or brand it as being “objectively” untrue.
So unless his semantic choices failed to support his intended point, we’re good in that area. I have sympathy, and even empathy through similar experiences for Dhusk’s position on this. But objectively speaking, I’ve had a different experience.
my self self i have just a little over 1000 Hr’s in the game (95% of it Early access time) and this is one of the odd case’s where i kind of wish i could get that time back…with the current sate the game is in and where we where promised it was going to be in on release its just really hard to sake the feeling i got bait and switched
I’d just like to add that I bought this game for my son. He’s five years old and was instantly hooked by what he was able to do. He’s kinda ocd and he spends almost all his time organizing his things in storage blocks.
What I did not expect is that I would also become hooked on this game! Being connected to the entire universe of servers through portals is amazing and offers so much opportunity for expansion.
While I’m very very pleased with my purchase of boundless it did not take long for the game to become way too complicated for my son. I understand the devs wanting to keep the game available for all ages to play but the amount of stuff for a younger player to do is severely limited.
I suggest that if the devs want to continue creating an all ages experience they add something to do in the form of mini games or options for players to create games. I’m almost positive that the long lasting players of this game are mostly adults because the systems are too complex for the younger audience. But what this game could really benefit from is a huge increase in players sticking around which I feel could be achieved with a few more things to do for a younger player. Things like arenas and obstacle courses and mazes that could be on tier 1&2 worlds. Or a major increase in decorative pieces that can be crafted with materials found on t1&t2 something to flesh out the builds of less hardcore players. Right now the only way to have anything above a dirt and rock shack is to learn to navigate the entire boundless universe which was difficult even for me to figure out.
I love this game! But I have to stop and remember sometimes that it’s marketed for children. Yet there is not much to do at all unless you’re a pretty hardcore player.
HopperBall!
TLDR: boundless needs more to do that isn’t so complicated if it wants to retain players of all ages.
Hmm. This may be a very important piece of feedback. While thinking of other MMOs, most do have a ton more decor items, pets, clothing, quests, etc to keep younger & more casual players interested (which is probably the majority). They have so much that a player can do without going after bosses, high level gear, etc.
its same game with more stuff what was better in beta then now? can ya go into detail just curious about it
edit: thought about some more they did change alot can make sence i guess
My nephew is 7 and loves the game but is really dependent on his uncles for building materials. My nieces, 10 & 12, don’t really like the complexity either. They play for about 20 minutes then switch to Fortnite or YouTube. I myself live the complexity and depth, but it would be nice to find some middle ground to make it more accessible to kids.
it may be my mindset but the only real thing that has been added was exo worlds the guilds and new crafting stuff was nice but its the kind of content you log in for 5 min see go “oh cool” then log back off there has not been any keep us comeing back content yet like farms or titans
This is the trailer I saw when I bought the game. It shows a lot of players interacting with each other. Working on machines together. Someone behind a stand and giving the impression it is the shop owner interacting with a customer.
Critters that are Not in the game that I expected to see.
Very seldom is a player alone, there are plenty together doing things, going on a meteorite hunt, which I didn’t have any idea of what it was.
That to me was misleading, there were no groups of players interacting with each other and with new players. There were no shop owners in a shop to help you out when you went to buy items. There was no info on how to get coins other than doing objectives and at that time the prices were outrageous.
Many of the request baskets were paying low prices but asking a lot more for the items you wanted to buy. Giving 5 coins for a item and selling it for 30c.
I didn’t know about footfall which gave a lot of the older players coins to spend and could buy the expensive items.
I’m not complaining, just giving a idea of how many new players felt they were cheated, ripped off. Chatted with some who bought it before I did and after I had bought it who had quit, upset at what wasn’t in the game, no idea of what to do, how to do things, which was most important.
Tried to talk some into buying it, but going there isn’t enough to make it worth the cost, it is double what it should be with so little and not what the trailer shows. They should have made a new trailer and they still have the old one up, which is confusing those who watch it.
I love this game, I want it to become a top game and I know that a game can progress slow, it isn’t the slow progress, it has been that a lot has been more for builders and crafters/forgers, new blocks, new designs, machines that can make more items, but are so complex in the recipes that they are confusing to players.
It falls in my expectations in that we need new content that is not new blocks, more ways to make tools and more complex methods to make current items, but something that isn’t in the game that will give lower level players something to do that lets them feel a sense of accomplishment. Have a reason to go out and explore.
A lot of the new games that come out, and some older ones that are out have so much more content on release that they are expecting that to be in a game for $60 and this doesn’t have it.
It falls in the expectation that when a player is mining on a planet that was attacked and destroyed by Titans they don’t find bits and pieces of ruins underground from buildings that collapsed and have items of value to sell or decorate with. There are no ruins that are partly hidden that they can explore and find treasures they can use, sell or just display. Dungeons that have traps that can hurt you and on higher level planets do serious damage but have loot that you can find that makes it worthwhile. That will attract new players and keep them playing and praising the game.
I have given these suggestions before and will continue to do so as I want this game to become as big as Minecraft and I don’t expect it all to be added in a month, but it would be nice of every couple of months something could show up that isn’t for building or more recipes for what is already in the game. Totally different critters, some harmless on level one and two planets, more dangerous, fish to get out of the rivers, ocean and lakes. Nets to be make from the leaves off the trees that will give them a use. Ladders to climb so we can get on top of a building faster and safer.
Just my two cents on what could help the game sell better and keep new players.
That would be something good for another poll. This poll is more of a temperature check on where the game fall’s in everyone’s current expectations/expectations when they bought it. The game has been available via EA for years now so this is a big time period, so the player base is an interesting mix of new and old players. There are no wrong answers to this poll, after all it’s all personal experience and feelings about the game. So far the results reflect what I expected for the most part, as do the comments. I will leave the poll open for a couple more days and close it at the 7 day mark just so the post does die eventually lol. It has been interesting data though so I am quite happy with the conversation it has helped spark.
