Portals in the world

Hey quick question about the portals. I noticed the world portals have a “time remaining” on it. Does that mean who ever owns in needs to keep up some sort of fuel on there. I noticed a few world portals were gray and I could not interact with it. I kind of ended up in a pickel using portals and end up on another world so I tried to port back home thru the sactum and it cost 500c which is way to rich for my new character. Now I am nervous about porting around because what if I dont have the money to port is my character just stuck.

yea you need Rough Oorestone and extract it

AND yeah, only the owner can fuel a portal, so if they’re not about you won’t be able to.

Hmmm, is there a way to change home hub to a different planet so I don’t have to play 500 all the time to go there or do I need to create a new character on that world in order for me to make that planet my new home.

  1. You can always warp to your home location. Your coin can go negative for this.
  2. You only ever have to portal to the closest portal. You can always get home like this. Just bookmark them. I use this approach to do trips for 200 coin (100 there, 100 back).
  3. You can place a beacon anywhere and set it as your home location from the Places menu.

Yeah I am trying to think of how to move back and forth the cheapest way. I will figure it out eventually.

When you say the portals were grey, do you mean a flat grey rectangle or can you see the individual portal conduit blocks? If you can see the blocks, then the portal is closed and needs to be refuelled by the owner. Otherwise you may just need to wait for whatever is on the other side of the portal to load properly (happens to me a lot with my own portals, never takes more than a minute to load)

Yeah if the portal is grey, it just means the world is loading and if you wait it will work.

You can move to whatever planet you want but your ping and server response will always be based on where you live in real life and the servers are. So if you are in the EU servers but live in the US you will have to deal with ping different… which overall isn’t bad.

In regards to jumping around in portals, I used to have the same concern. To limit risk you need to take some time to save the main portal hub locations for each planet. If you don’t want to do that then at least get them on the “beginner” and “zone link” planets.

You do this so that if by chance you are stuck on Epsilo and need to get to Berlyn, you can jump to Solum and then take the main hubs back to Berlyn.

Primarily you need to get SWProzee1 and Jeffrotheswell Hubs saved. There are no plans for them to shut down any time soon so you will be safe jumping around as long as you can get to one of their link stations.

One things I always do when jumping around unknown portals is to make note of the time so that I don’t get stuck there. There honestly are enough links, though, to almost everywhere if you just start investigating. I was surprised at how there seemed to always be another portal around the corner that could lead me back to somewhere I had been.
