With all the doomsayer posts and all the posts about quitting I thought I’d post about some positive things. I don’t foresee myself quitting this game anytime soon. So here goes some positive vibes…
This Community Rocks!
I cannot stress this enough … I can walk through the world at any given point and pass by someone and 9 out of 10 times they wave at me and ask me if I need any help or just shoot the breeze. On top of that, if I ask for help on the forums or if I request a trade on the forums someone always steps up… such a nice thing to see in a game.
Goals are Good!
Wow do I have a lot of goals. I am a semi-new player (since Jan) and I have Soooo many goals and while a little overwhelming this is awesome. I am building a HUGE color storage (shout out to you color hoarders and gleambow hunters). I just finished the first stage of a new personal base and have a few other stages set as goals for the future. I have a few shops in malls with the goal of keeping those stocked. I have a few community goals like maybe helping build a new community mall or something so if anyone is looking to build anything community-related please reach out!
Revival
Do you ever just walk somewhere or portal somewhere and see an area with dead portals everywhere, empty shops and just areas that seem abandoned. I know I do and while I love it, this also makes me wish I could help revive these areas in some way. I would love to be able to power up the portals or make new ones. Even though there is beauty in the history of these areas that have been abandoned or areas that just lie in waiting for a new updated and their owners to come back, I would love to help out any of these areas so if any of you have a hub that is in need of a little TLC… HIT ME UP! I’ll gladly help where I can. If you own a shop in a mall and you aren’t stocking it or just gave up on it maybe drop the beacon so someone else can take it … I know I for one would gladly create a new shop in its place. (Looking at you DK Mall)
Recommend the game
I know there haven’t been any updates, I know there seems to be a lack of communication, I know that not all the promises made have been kept when it comes to the game, but damn the game is good and fun and with such a great community I never hesitate to suggest this game to my friends and while I know this is probably falling on deaf ears to a lot of people that have all but given up… Recommend the game … I know you might be a little jaded … maybe you are bored … but generating more interest in the game will only make the community better and also maybe kick the devs into gear. Who knows…
Big Get Together
Maybe you play the game a lot or just a little, maybe you just lurk the forums and see if there is anything new, maybe you are new player, why don’t we just schedule one Saturday or Sunday were we all (I mean ALL of us! previous/current players, forum lurkers, casual and hardcore players) just get online if not for anything but to make some form of large presence known. You don’t even have to play … you could just log in for a “get together” event. It’s just an idea to maybe show the devs what could be possible if we were all online at one time and also show a spike in the player count. I’m shooting an arrow blindly here as I am not sure what good any of this would do, but damn do I want to make a difference and make this game and it’s community grow.
If you read all this I appreciate you and would love to hear your thoughts.
I just helped someone a lot someone needed a rifinery or two and I brought them 400 which make 100 and then I gave them a ton of stuff
And yes this is bragging
So I ran some quick math. The last time James spoke of this he said there were approximately 3500 Monthly Active Users.
Divided by 80 (permanent world cap) and with 3500 people we could fill up over 43 of the home worlds. If most players from all time managed to show up, we would be bleeding out into a bunch of sovereigns too, I think. They don’t hold as many people.
If the game survived that, it would be pretty freaking awesome.
It’s just a thought … I love the game and only want to see it continue. I for one, would be all for an event like having as many players as possible be online somewhere even if it were for only 15-30 mins as to not take up much time from people that do not care to be in the game. It may or may not be pointless, but I am up for anything and never back down from a challenge … (granted another ghost pepper challenge is questionable).
I remember when I first started getting into collecting all the gleam I could for my color storage and a few people randomly stepped up and gave me a bit of the gleambow colors. That is just one small example of the many people that have helped me out so far …
I’d just like to say. This is an absolutely amazing community. I’ve met so many people I can honestly say I’ve become friends with. I’ve had countless late nights sharing laughs with so many people. You are all great. And I’m happy I can share my time with you.
This can’t be said enough. You all ROCK!! So, so many wonderful people here - kind, generous, talented, coolest folks ever!
Honored to be a part of it.
On recruiting, where I’ve had luck is with bases of similar indie gems - NMS the big one. Seems like there are a lot of similarities in the people who play it, particularly age range (lot of 30’s and 40’s) and personalities (they have a lot of really wonderful fans too). If on social media of any sort, actually a good thing to play other games and post about them too, as people from those games will see the Boundless stuff - for a lot of them, they just don’t know what it is!
Here are my goals
Make a awesome base
Make a community helper area
Help newer players
Create a epic business
And become the boundless god and before anyone says anything this is more or less just having me be competitive and keep me going even when bored
I can’t say that I remember how many times that I have tried NMS. Not long ago I tried it again and liked it better than before. I have an unrealistic hope that Hello Games takes over Boundless. Lol
I’m looking at different games to replace Boundless if it comes to it.
I’m sort of looking into Space Engineers on Steam.
I wonder if we should start a “Replacement Games for Boundless” thread.
@curtis999c I have played so many games … I think I am up to some crazy numbers on Steam alone with the amount of games I own and have played. I was there for the NMS debacle and release, I played just about any and all sandbox games at some point. Everquest Next (sigh), Minecraft (vanilla and modded), ARK, Empyrion, 7 Days to Die, Creativerse, Garrys Mod, NMS, Miscreated, Starbound, Rust, Raft, Subnautica, Conan, Osiris, Grounded, This Land is My Land, The Forest, and many others.
While I won’t knock any of those games, Boundless just hit me right between the eyes, gave me a high five and a hard pat on the butt in the right way to create a special relationship for me with the game. It wasn’t even on my radar and lucky for me a friend gifted it to me or otherwise I wouldn’t ever have tried it.
It’s just a great game … it has it’s issues just as any game has … in my eyes while I do hope the devs give it some TLC … the game “as-is” is very fun and it’s a sandbox… any sandbox game ultimately is what you and the community make it.
Let’s just say it here then, there is no game like Boundless. There just isn’t. You can’t fill the Boundless shaped hole in your heart with anything other than Boundless. That’s why we are all still here, whether you still play or not.
@curtis999c If you aren’t enjoying Boundless I hope that list helps you find one you do enjoy. If any of them were what Boundless is to me I’d be playing them too. Sadly, none fill the hole that Boundless has for me. Good luck!
Boundless is still my favorite game. I have found that playing other games sometimes brings me back to Boundless. I also want to hedge my bets in finding another game since the future of Boundless is so debatable. There’s something about coming to a reliable place to be entertained, creative, and just chill.
I think the future of Boundless is pretty solid, but it also depends on what you call solid/reliable. If they open up personal servers and we all congregate to one server (if possible given the limits) that would be great. If there was some way to connect private servers (maybe?) that would also be great. I personally love the fact that in some way everyone in this forum and in the game are all in the same universe. It helps drive the economy, allows you to meet many people and do many things and my biggest concern with private servers is that it will splinter everyone to different places thus taking away one of the greatest things in the game for me… the community.
Either way, I would probably still play Boundless … but knowing if I needed help or wanted, wanted to participate in an event with many people or go on a big hunt would just be more appealing given the Boundless universe as it stands currently.
I had a “hub” that literally was called “the abandoned Terra hub” never guess it but it was ment to be kind of a gost hub with one or two active portals… (mainly for me as a easy way to travel to my offworld projects…)
If you logged in to refuel a portal then logged off to go play something else for 4 weeks you count as a “monthly active user”, the numbers do go up during major events so there are people just waiting for something to drop
