Post 1.0 content?

A quick question for any devs… @blake @lucadeltodecso @luke-turbulenz @james or any others

Certain other games for example (I hate to draw this comparison but it was the best example xD) Minecraft, received updates after their release containing more content or features. Will this happen with boundless?

Cheers.

Yes, it will. For example farming is something (most likely) coming after 1.0, many features in discussions were placed in “after 1.0”.

Awesome, thanks for the info

I was thinking about that today. Imo boundless is that special kind of game you can expand and add really cool features. Expand in a true meaning of this word. It’s not like WoW where you can add more mobs/quests/mounts/races etc.
If you look at example of minecraft they added… alchemy, spells etc but people loved that game for mining and building part. Mojang literally fuc* up their own game and that’s the reason i don’t play it anymore.

In boundless devs will be able to add more resources, machines, tools, mobs (as everybody expected minecraft to go that way) and make it a really interesting, solid game. It’s unique because you can add a real content which changes the game dramatically. 1000 new quests wouldn’t change the game, but cuttletrunks at release made f.e ring world super hostile and from this very moment players had to fight all these monsters.

Up to this day i weren’t thinking about post release content, because seriosusly, this game is awesome as it is now.

I am just wondering if theirs going to be more specialization in the game?
Like will their be things you can only do if you specialize down a certain path

Yes, this is the skillpoint system. You can’t have every skill, this requires you to specialise

Yes but the skill system is kind of weird to me still because yes their is specializing but its very easy to be able to do everything(which kinda ruins the point of fully specializing in one thing) like if you spend all your points just upgrading mining and can mine tons of stuff but cannot craft someone else who spent points in crafting can still go out and mine all the resources they need while spending little to no points in the mining skill. This system makes it economically difficult on people who fully specialize in one thing because a crafter can just go out and easily get the materials(that you specialized for) for themselves.

Fully specialising as you put it, still allows you to do other things. If you specialise as a hunter you can still mine, just more slowly, and you can get tools by buying them etc…

The problem is, as he’s pointed out, that only true ‘sometimes’.

You don’t specialise in mining, you just do it more slowly. But if you don’t specialise in crafting, you can’t do it at all.

It would have made much more sense (or be more intuitive) if you crafted things more efficiently or made better products by specializing, but were still able to do it all without. Either that, or you were incapable of mining anything other than basic materials if you don’t specialise.

Yes but the point is that you are able to acquire those items which you can’t craft from player shops. This means that not being able to craft some things isn’t an issue

Ok, fair enough, you believe non-crafters should only be able to acquire anything but the simplest crafted goods via trading.

If that’s the case, and the way it’s supposed to be, why shouldn’t it also be the case that non-miners should have to get anything but the most basic raw materials from shops?

You do realize that all the crafting skills are not that many skill points? Whilst maxing mining takes more than 1000 skill points.

The current system encourages a degree of specialization - but not absolute. You can do without every skill, but some are very good for specific things (e.g. tool masteries), others are generally good but worse for specific things (e.g. power) and others unlock “special” things (like advanced crafting).

1 person with advanced crafting can supply a whole city. 1 person with maxed mining can’t. They’re trying to encourage us to spend more points into the end-game grind of our choice.

As for crafters being able to mine everything themselves - it might be true if you don’t sleep, but a maxed miner gets double drops from luck, twice the speed from agility, 50% less hits from power and can use better tools effectively due to hammer mastery. The same goes for hunting, etc.

Oh, another interesting thing to keep in mind is that you aren’t being limited to unlocking just one profession. You can also be mediocre at everything (be able to craft most things, be able to mine everything with some efficiency, be able to damage max level mobs, etc). That way you’re better than every specialist at everything except one thing

I feel like some people missed the guys point.

I think he means if you take all the crafting skills, yes you’re now a ‘crafter’, but there’s nothing stopping you going out and mining everything you need without a ‘miners’ help.

Whilst this happens, Mr Miner goes out, can mine everything fast as they please, but in the end, they can’t craft everything.

Crafter can mine (albiet slower)
Miner can’t craft (everything)

I think this is what he’s getting at.

Well a miner can craft everything at level 50… So that’s not true @Jyanin

I was just saying I think the point was lost somewhere.

I would just like to see some more spcialization in the game or maybe just like special things you can do if you fully max out one path, because right now theirs not much point to fully specializing in anything early on than crafting. Yes you can sell your materials to others but you end up barely making anything and using that money to buy more hammers etc. Just saying in the end the crafters in this game have it way better off than others who fully specialize

Yes - this is planned.

When we’re thinking about features (or looking at proposals on the forum) the question is normally is this something for 1.0 or something for after 1.0.

We already have some features that have be postponed until after 1.0.

The plan is to maintain and expand the game post 1.0.

I know about farming and titans, are there more?

Until 1.0 is locked and released it’ll not be final.

A list of thing unlikely for 1.0 but possible after is endless.
