Power core and generators

So I was thinking, the power core right now burns coal to make spark, which is our “power” source. Which so far is what has been decided will be the power generation for spark. I was curious however, maybe create power generators that could effectively power the core to generate spark at much quicker pace and larger magnitude. Or essentially automating itself.

The way I think this can be done is essentially how electricity was first generated. We can already mine copper, and we have a way of compressing and refining it. So maybe add copper coils to our kit of things to make. Then using metaphoric rock and igneous rock, mix em, compress, maybe add some metal or crystals to make magnetic materials. Then allowing to create a multi-piece construct that uses the magnets and the copper coils. Add some fuel to it to start it up allowing the magnet to spin over the coils generating power. Then have that connect to the power core. Boom, spark. Now I know this sounds super OP. So I was thinking maybe the magnet can only be generated by a high level miner. And the copper coils and the assembly stuff by a high level crafter.

Thoughts?

I’m generally in favor of energy generation with other means. Like endothermic, solar, water etc. If it doesn’t use up some fuel like solar energy then the output has to be much lower. But I think it can be balanced. Although it might not be feasible for 1.0.
Maybe we’ll get an energy update after 1.0^^

Making it water or wind powered would be cool. Can’t really be solar powered since you need something to make the magnet move around the copper coil. Solar panels already have their own current generation embedded, so it would defeat the purpose of using a form of generator to power another generator.

I know it might not be possible for 1.0, but was just a thought I wanted to share

Sorry for the high jack of your thread but I have a power / fuel questions you guys might be able to help me with…

Does compact coal have more burning value for the same quantity as untouched coal?

I’ve just been burning coal as I mine it but am always running short.

Cheers!!

Yup compact coals burn for a little longer than 10 of the equivalent coal would. Not sure of how many extra cycles you get per coal type, but just know that it’s more

You sir just made my day :fire:

You could have a water mill or furnace that somehow attaches to your power core that reduces the fule cost of sparks depending on the size of sead attachment. It would of course be exspensive to build.
I could invision an awsom watermill workshop or a high mountan wind powerd workshop.
Also a machine build next to lava could produce hydrothermal energy.

Or how about a tread mill for those times you just nee three more sparks :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

thank you for that tip! been using so much coal lately its unreal lol

And the burning speed is higher for compacted materials.
