I know we’ve talked about private servers a lot, but what is your wishlist if they do go live? Things you’d like to see whether you own one or not.
For me, I’d make them a little something like this:
Unlimited plotting for the server owner.
Enhanced planetary permissions for the server owner (Server Beacon, says who can mine/build/plot in the wild); can default to Free For All like on regular servers.
Ban options - a banned player can not travel outside their claimed plots and has 3 days to pack their belongings before their beacon goes wild*
Option to connect to the regular world if it obeys the laws of the regular universe.
Server owner beacons do not expire.
Cosmetic host privileges, such as can change or freeze time of day.
Any portals that lead to somewhere else on the planet are free for the host… maybe a limited number like 10-50 if needed.
Free sanctuary warps (on the same planet) for the host.
And then there are what I consider the “obvious” things, like choosing the colors for your planet’s foliage, gravel etc.
9b. Option to change these colors once a month maybe…? In case it turns out ugly.
Ability to choose the tier of your planet. Suppose you make a T6 world for diamonds - so what? You still have to actually mine them.
Server buff helix* similar to guild buff, costs a ton of coins to operate and applies only while in your world. Can have multiple active but you probably can’t afford to.
Rental Planet Types:
Tabula Rasa world - no terrain whatsoever. Just a blank place to build. Option to N S E W loop as a “round” world or just be a cube that does not loop.
Normal world of varying sizes/price. Smallest size possible, maybe 25 x 25 for a Tabula Rasa world? A “planet” with terrain would probably have to be about 80 x 80 minimum… at least large enough that you can’t render the same gleam tower on the North South East and West horizon.
Creative world. Can invite friends over to play, but they could only use their 11th character slot, designated for “Creative” worlds. Not able to connect to the Boundless universe.
Negative feedback also welcome, especially if you notice something game breaking.
#3. I’m not sure how this would be handled. I think 3 days is probably not long enough.
#10. I don’t think people should be able to select a tier. All rental planets connected to the main universe should be T0/T1. I think anything T3 or above, with minerals/gems/etc could greatly alter the ecosystem of the main universe.
I dunno. I think you should have to venture out into the main universe to mine anything beyond soil and timber. Keeps the MMO aspect, unless you rent a local/private planet (ie: creative mode should never be connected to the main universe).
my hope for worlds connected to the live universe.
anyone can travel to or mine on that world
permission must be gained plot on this world
ability (with admins help) to ban troublesome people. its important that a 3rd party review the ban request to make sure the ban is appropriate.
3b. a system for a band person to receive any items in plots on the world instantly and a cool down so this can not be exploited.
In all other ways the world should be just like other worlds
If I stop paying for my world it should revert to a normal universe world or be transferred to another player where they become responsible to the rental fee.
World creation
6. the ability to choose what type and tier world you want.
7. the ability choose biomes, sub-biomes, and landmark structures. if you make them yourself in the world maker they would need to be reviewed by devs to make sure they are not OP.
8.when creating your world you get to choose the colors you wish to use. colors wouldnt change after selection.
9. before the world enters the universe you get the chance to run or fly around the world to make sure you like the choices you have made.
As far and worlds not connected to the main universe the owner should have complete control over them and have the option to link them to other privet servers.
the details of privet servers are unimportant to me as i will be staying in the live universe.
I do not see why a rental planet should not be able to be any tier as long as it follows the rules for that tier. If I rent a t6 that has diamonds how does that affect the rest of the universe? Since the resources are infinite anyway it is not like you are increasing the supply. Since players are allowed to use plots to claim areas that spawn diamonds on existing planets, and can spend rl cash to buy the plots, there is no difference in renting the planet or buying plots.
Not sure a t6 would be my first choice of a planet to rent, but if I did decide to rent a t3 I would expect it to have the same resources as an existing t3. I do not see where it damages the live universe in any way.
Private worlds are completely unnecessary, it’s just a luxury and could boost the overall player count. Someone may create an entire Ancient Greece themed planet, for example, without having to worry about someone making a gleam tower in the middle of it.
Those probably won’t be a good idea when connected to the normal universe. I can already see the monthly polls: ‘what colour of xx shall I choose this month?’
I did read/hear that choosing a tier was possible tho. The rest I’m all for!
I think we should be able to tho. Many people prefer to live now already on a T4+ would be a shame if they can’t rent a planet of the same type.
But perhaps it could be an idea to limit the gem types, we also now see T6 exo planets without any gems whatsoever for instance, and you just don’t know what type of T6 you will get when you decide to get one and the system can make sure that there aren’t 100 diamond ones for instance…
If I am mining diamonds on my t6 or a public t6 does it really matter? Does another diamond planet really affect supply? Since the diamonds still have to be mined, I am not sure how this ends up flooding the market.
If they made it random, then players that want a particular planet will simply rent a planet and if it is not what they want stop renting that one and rent another one until they get what they want.
If the system tries to limit planet types then you end up favoring early renters over those that rent latter and I am not sure that is a good idea. We already get to many players complaining about the advantages ea players had over the ones that started on launch day.
I’m not sure either, but you’re right that it probably doesn’t matter vs. current gem economies with live worlds. I don’t know if it would be terrible at all actually. It could be a good value added proposition for renting planets, which could give WS a good revenue boost
