Prospective Player

Hey everyone!

I’m considering buying Boundless and I’m curious on whether you all think it’s still active enough for a new player to enjoy. Im also playing on an M1pro MacBook Pro.

Yes! Totally! :boundless:

I have put over 1,000 hours into this game (not much compared to many!), and there is still so much to do!

No problems …
… Go ahead and enjoy the game :+1:
Lots of things to explore and of course lots of building to do.
Welcome to :boundless: Boundless :boundless:

So, Steam says there are between 30 and 80 players online depending on the time. This only counts non-console players, console numbers tend to match though. If you distribute that over the 50 main worlds, that’s about 2 or 3 per world, so it can feel empty. You tend to see the greatest concentrations (20-40) for meteor hunts.

I’m a retuning player and yes each world can feel a little empty at times however there is so much to do solo that it does not bother me to much. Then when you do run into people it is exciting and generally I try to engage with most people i see.

Once you decide to put yourself out there I have found the existing community incredibly helpful and generous. The main hubs always seem to have people running around and like you said the hunts are a great place to meet in a big group and enjoy the more social aspects of the game.

I still find everything i could ever need at shop vendors and the game is complete as far as development goes.

I love the game very much and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys builders. And if you need help with XP in boundless let me know I can help. And even can get you a starter pack :star::rose:

I’ve got over 5000 hours play time in the game and still enjoy it a lot. I’d recommend it, because there’s so much to do and it’s not really dependent on a huge game population, although there’s still people playing so if that’s your thing then you can find a community of people to join in with.

I have played on and off since launch. In my opinion, if you enjoy block building like minecraft with an added layer of detail it is worth a buy.
Starting out can be a bit confusing, but if you need any help with the game mechanics you can always ask in the forums or ingame. There’s enough old players to give you guidance.

I love the game, but I love building and collecting; the social aspect is just a “nice to have.” I can go weeks without speaking to anyone, but I can always go on a hunt or bug someone on the more populated planets if I get lonely.

If you look at a big ol’ planet with 3 people on it and think, “WHERE ARE ALL THE PEOPLE?!” instead of, “AH, SWEET FREEDOM” you will probably be unhappy.

I’d say yes, but there can be a couple of a learning curves.

The first one is the mechanics learning curve. As this game treats crafting and such a bit different than similar games. If you follow the objectives you will get through most of this learning curve early, but depending on the type of player you are you might find doing objectives dull and prefer exploring which brings me to…

The second learning curve, navigation. This game is huge, there are 50 “public” worlds and those are sorted into teirs lvl1-6 with the 4+ level ones needing atmospheric protection food buffs or skills, players have all of these linked through portal networks which will feel like rat mazes to new players, you can travel via warping like the game has you do at the start, but that costs coin and you will need to do objectives or feats to get coin, or find some player request baskets to sell things you’ve gathered to. (Or a minter but that’s not really a new player machine)

Not really.

The worlds are static and dead.
Everything is badly explained and obscure.
There isn’t enough content or variation.
You can play only as an diapered ugly goblin.

The game loop is: mine blocks → sell blocks → buy mining tools → repeat

If you like:

  • walking in a straight line, holding a button down to mine blocks
  • standing at one point, holding one button down to mine blocks and clicking another button every three seconds to regenerate the mined blocks back, so you can mine them again
  • doing either of those for hours at a time

then the game has enough content for you to last for years.

I’m sorry that was your impression. I barely mine at all in the game and have a blast…

Hopefully when the game does get updates you will look at it differently, some games are not for everyone either

Welcome to boundless @Broadside I hope you took the plunge and bought the game.
I’m absolutely addicted lol.
There isn’t a vastly large community but there are some great little groups of people that play. I’m sure you’ll be welcomed wherever you settle.

I have just under 3k hrs put into the game. I started playing last Jan/Feb.

There’s lots to do in game I’m sure you’ll find your little niche to get stuck into. It can feel overwhelming and grindy at times but there’s always someone happy to help if you ever reach out.

Look forward to seeing you ingame sometime
