PS4 Distance Blur/Draw Distance issues

I was curious about the current issue where landscape at a distance blurs together, creating large blocks of colour; with no discernible shape. (View images)

I’ve tried altering the Chunk Download Rate and that doesn’t help. I’ve also tried the game on both my standard PS4 and my PS4 Pro. But the issue remains the same on both. I have no connection issues and my internet runs at a stable 120mbps…

If this is normal on PS4 due to the restrictions of the system, then I don’t mind… I just wanted to check because it doesn’t look anywhere near what I expected from the trailers

Is that a cut out from screenshot or that is the whole screenshot?

It’s a screenshot from a video I recorded. I had intended to share the video on the twitter page.

Similar ps4 screenshot from reddit:

It feels like level of detail falls off too quickly at longer distances

I think it’s to stop lag but there should be a difference between what a ps4 and a ps4 pro can handle

looks to me like you’ve got target fps set to something. (it’s default). just set it to max or min or off or whatever it is. should fix that right up.

That happens on PC too, its just the LOD system to increase performance.

I’ve got all the setting on the console version maxed out, doesn’t make any difference… I also dropped them just in case, and again no change

you changed target fps to max? (or off or whatever it is)

(target fps is the only setting that is important here)

I don’t mind too much if this is the norm, I just wasn’t sure. I expected some limitations on PS4 compared to PC. But it was just so vastly different to what I saw in the trailers, that I was concerned. It’s not hindering my gameplay in any way, I just wanted to share some screenshots and it can potentially lead people to make assumptions on the game. But honestly I love playing this game so much that the issue really doesn’t bother me…

I’d love to see more detail at further distances, but if it’s going to cause performance issues then it’s best left as it is.

I had my mind blown when I realised you can see man made structures on other planets when you look into the sky. I was streaming and looked at one of the planets as it orbited mine, I could see what looked like a bridge connecting two continents… placed a warp point there, opened a portal… and sure enough someone had built a bridge… FREAKING AMAZING

I’ve not seen an option for target fps on the PS4 version… the options are more limited I assume

darn, sorry to hear mate. wish I could help. I’m only on pc.

I don’t think chunk rates have anything to do with lod, and at the moment there is no difference between the ps4, and ps4 pro.

japp, tht effect comes from the option to have a set minimum fps. On PC you can set minimum fps and max fps and if you leave linimum fps at “none” you have all blocks in view shown as they are (even if that means that my pc drops to 15 or 20 at some action loaded situations ^^)

I know this is a pretty old thread (3 months), but no answers or indicators were proposed by support so I just wanted to check for an update.

I can only compare to other games where the ps4 pro is capably achieving 4K HDR 3D open world games with good frame rates and long, clean distance views.

I love boundless, but looking at it is really underwhelming.

Looking at the “Post your screenshots” thread can be quite depressing as so many of the shots are quite beautiful, and I’m yet to have that “wow” experience in boundless on my ps4 pro.

Is there work being done to improve this?

Thanks in advance for any information.

id rather see a solid frame rate before visuals
