I’m probably missing something obvious, but if I open the Chat panel so I can follow the conversations going on around the settlement I joined, I can’t seem to do anything else. With the Chat open the controller only responds to chat. This makes it really hard to be social. I’m not talking about actually typing in a message, I can’t even read it and move at the same time.
If this is working as intended, I think it needs to be addressed. We should be able to open chat, leave it open and go back to playing while we watch the conversation.
Huh, that didn’t seem to be happening for me. I opened chat to ask a question and there was a whole conversation I had missed. There’re a couple of chat option in settings but it isn’t super clear what they do. Maybe I need to mess with them.
Hmm… do you have the rest of the UI hidden? By hitting f10?
Otherwise sometimes the chat goes away before i notice too or i look away just as chat is entered
Continuous chat setting will keep chat window open after you type something and hit enter, but you still wont be able to do anything other than tinker with machines or your inventory.
Chat is something that has literally been evolved recently. I think there may even be more tweaks to it in time.
For now I just hit enter when I am doing anything, like crafting and stuff. Scroll up a lot to see if I missed anything. Older players are all use to using an emote when they see others they want to talk to, a wave or salute is loud enough on any speaker you know someone is there.
There is a quick chat system in the game, if you click on the speech icon next to the text input you have a menu with all the emotes, stock phrases and gestures that you can easily use by clicking a button.
I’m just not sure how to do that using a controller. At some points we do get a cursor that we move around with analog sticks… maybe I can do it that way. I’ll check it out. Thanks!
