PvP question

@james @luke-turbulenz

A bit early to even bring this up as a serious discussion but I do would like to know a few things regarding this.

Is there any plans in the pipeline to have pvp enabled worlds? This way guilds or communities of players can venture to these worlds, build towns and cities, and have some sort of base of operations that they can live out of for the sake of hunting down other players.

If this is the case, has there been anything planned to allow enemy players being hidden on the compass?

I am really hoping that there will be pvp worlds with some sort. It can’t be only about building stuff.

Why does there have to be PvP in boundless when there are tons of games that already have PvP such as Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, SMITE, Dirty Bomb, EVE, Clash of Clans, and World of Warcraft to name a few. Do we want the developers to spend the effort it would take to produce and test the code needed to add PvP to the game?

You are not limited to building. Hunting, crafting and exploring are other roles available in the game.

More variety in a game is never a bad thing. That’s why. I don’t play any of those games you mentioned too.

With it already being said there will be dozens of planets to join along with player owned planets, it’s a reasonable question to ask if there will be some of them with pvp enabled.

You don’t have to go to any of those planets if you don’t want to.

And I can only hunt, craft, explore, and build so much before I feel like I want to do something else.

I just want to know if it’s in the pipeline some where.

Thanks! Didn’t know if there was an official answer or not. Good to know that there will be pvp worlds.

That one is from April '16 and things and plans like that tend to change, so, you never know.
Two things for sure:

  1. PvP is not the release feature.
  2. Doesn’t look like it’s been decided what form PvP would take (pvp zones on worlds or entire pvp worlds or maybe some other dimension areas that player can teleport to).

Well if it’s planned and will be in the game at some point, then I am okay with that being an answer. It isn’t a major selling point of the game anyways and shouldn’t be even if I want it in the game.

Well I think that PvP enabled worlds where plots don’t exist that way guilds and friends can take over other locations. and set up alliances and own land and either fight for new land, buy it, or negotiate it.

Maybe make it so when you load into the world, it will warn you that it is a PvP world or maybe when you look at the portal before going through that way you know before hand.

maybe make it on PvP enable worlds, that the Regen of the world doesn’t happen that way we can see the destruction and construction of countless players over years and maybe make the worlds much larger then a normal world.

make it so that portals can not be destroyed, and can be locked to only friends and guild mates only or kept public.

Still make it so players don’t drop there stuff.

Make it so players who aren’t in a guild or are friends with others can’t see their icon on the compass.

The PvP answer is still as @boundmore has linked to.

We’ve been working on the PvE combat and once this is solid we can start thinking about how it can be adapted for PvP.

Thanks James! I missed the answer being posted that Boundmore put up when it was originally made so I had no idea it existed. Since it’s still planned to be put in the pipeline then that makes me very happy!

Since we’re on the topic of PvP planets, I think it will also be good if we enable conquering cities in these planets. (You see, I really like to be competitive hehe)

A sample of how it would work based from what I’m thinking:

  • There are two settlements namely A and B.
  • A could sort of “siege” B without prior notice (PvP planets are unforgiving)
  • Sieging would be done by A’s settlers going to B and kind of “reverse fueling” the B’s fuel.
  • “Fuel” in this sense should be equal or greater than the settlement’s total prestige so the act of sieging is similar to the act of buying the settlement. For a really large settlement, expect to invest a lot when sieging it (gleams, gems, etc. as “reverse fuel”)
  • For B to defend the siege, its settlers could fuel it back making the B’s fuel bar goes back and forth like in tug if war.
  • Since B’s total prestige is the base for this “fueling battle” and B’s settlers could still fuel it back, A need to expend more than what the settlement is worth for. This ensures that conquering is only practical to happen between a powerful settlement and a significantly less powerful settlement.

I know it’s quite complex but it’s just a fun thought of mine. This could also be a good sink for materials so that gatherers will always be in demand. Millionaires will also have their place as they could buy hefty amount of resources and conquer a settlement. It’s also a good way to engage the settler’s or else they’ll lose their home!

I don’t really know how I feel about taking over settlements. Might not even need to take over settlements.

When I was asking the question, I was mostly asking if we’d be able to just kill each other out in the open. Whether there’s looting involved is a completely different story as is settlement conquering.

Keep in mind that it only takes 10k prestige to have a settlement turn into the settlement level. You can get that on your own as a solo builder. So does that mean someone that doesn’t like you and has a group of friends should be allowed to attack your place and take it over? I guess, would be interesting to see how people hide their settlements. I would hide mine under ground for sure. lol

We’ll have to wait and see. I am just glad it’s in the pipeline for future content release.

Jokes on them for solo building a settlement (Say no to ghost town!) :joy:

But conquering settlements sounds really fun though. I imagine people starting to build high walls (or hard to grapple walls) to funnel them all in the main entrance so they can be spotted easily. They could also build lookout towers. Once an intruder has been spotted, I imagine people shouting “Alert! Someone is trying to reverse fuel our settlement!” then mercilessly kills them before they are able to reverse fuel the settlement. Next time, they will have now escort fighters with a precious cargo behind (a dude with complete stack of gems!!).

Anyway, no mater how much fun that sounds, I highly doubt it will be a thing. Or it could be a B< 3.0 thing

Well if we ever get automated, fueled defenses for settlements, like turrets or robotic Oortian guards, it could make for some really interesting fights.

Who knows. The pvp in this game could go very far or just be a basic hack and slash in the wilderness type of thing.

PvP isn’t really a focal point of the game right now.

Oh boy, now I want a gladiatorial arena! Winner gets 50,000c lol
