I am level 12 and just going through my journal to pick quests to work on. Very good game by the way. I prefer this one over Minecraft and it is very very good. But some of the quests can be difficult to the extent I wonder if they need to be done in a certain order. For instance I wasn’t sure how to get any of the mats needed for better fuel. Do I need to finish the quests in a certain order. Judging by the percent completed on Steam stats, it seems most players aren’t even finishing the quests and I wonder if making the order more intuitive might help.

Some quests will have to be done before others as sometimes a certain skill is needed to craft or plant/harvest something. But most can be done out of order.
So if you look in Knowledge it lists you can search the item then click on it and it shows what is needed for that item. You can also click on each item needed to see what it comes from. Like Inky leaves
Then it is just a matter of going to the world level needed and harvesting the item and collecting the drops.
So for better fuel just type in Fuel in the search and you will get the three beacon fuels and a few other things.
