I feel like it would be a great addition to gathering if you occasionally came across clusters of plants and or fungi of the biome type. This could be restricted to larger planets, and or could be something that is trigger spawned in your vicinity after you gather a certain amount of that plant/fungi (to avoid people just searching them out with an atlas).

If you dont collect the spawned plants, they stay until collected or regenned?
