I don’t think footfall is the problem, either. But it’s all very inter-connected. I’m sure I’m not the only one that, when looking at my beacon to get the footfall pittance, goes like ‘oh, travel money’
I can constantly do the 100c warp to-from the hubs of every planet I explore, because I have that pittance (which would probably seem a large sum for a new player, 3k or so a day). And the player out in the boonies would not be getting it without traffic… which they can’t reasonably get out in the boonies without portals, and so on, as discussed at length in the topic.
Could they opt for the single plot for shop stands at a city / hub? Absolutely. But was that what they had in mind when they were promised so much freedom before buying the game? Meh. That might be a longer topic I suppose.
I still feel that footfall should be left well alone (even tho as a shop owner I have zero need of it, other play styles depend on it) and simply moving the portal blocks back to the unpowered stage of crafting would solve it.
Or, alternatively, having a new, weaker, variety of portal that can only be used for same-planet travel, but needs no coils to craft, and keep the interplanetary portals as is, if the devs feel strongly enough that that particular hurdle still makes sense at this stage in general community progression.
I think this is the main problem.
Passive income (footfall) vs active income (trading, etc) is not balanced enough.
I’m sure some players feel rather frustrated mining for hours for some gems when they can earn a lot more with minimal effort with ff.
Thats my playstyle too
But if you do some maths it’s far better to just build a gleam tower with 100k prestige and collect ff coin without doing almost nothing.
People, please use the proper terms, it’s very confusing. Warping and portaling are not the same thing. The last time I checked it doesn’t cost you 100c to go through a portal, lol. If it did, I would have a negative account balance. I went through portals with my new character about 100 times last night.
In fact, I think it would be nice to have a system where lower levels get more warp credits and that decreases as they progress in levels. It might even be used towards solving the occasional “I went thru a foggy portal and now I’m stuck in endless death loop from lack of environmental protection” issue that pops up every so often in the forums, usually affecting lower level players.
Not sure how staying niche is going to support servers-wages etc longterm without the cash shop being pushed more to the detriment of those who won’t or can’t use it.
I’d rather a large push for more players.
Umm, on topic cause more players=more FF something something
Same argument I have but seems the vet/oldguard are happy with their influence in the games niche direction and commitment. You don’t have to play online games for 20 years to know how a niche market is going to pan out long term.
Nobody here has more influence than anyone else. These footfall arguments aren’t anything new to most vets, and you might be surprised by how little the vets agree on. The Dev’s read all of our threads and take in the information. If you look at the 200-300 (very liberal guestimate) of us that were active when they announced 1.0, a lot of us wanted a lot of different things out of the game. The Dev’s ultimately pick what goes into the game and how to implement. Rest assured most of us vets have felt (or are feeling) disappointment at certain development aspects of the game. Personally, I hate power coils. When they added them to the game in EA, my planet died because the other folks I played with all quit. The thought of lengthening the grind for release killed their joy. So far none of them has come back.
Another thing, other than a handful of people, most of the “vet/oldguard” don’t post here anymore and stick to the discords. A lot of them are reading these posts but lurking in the background. You can look at how many people are actually posting here by going to users under the menu next to your profile pic up top. The majority of topics and replies on this forum in the past week were made by less than 100 people to include developers and forum mods.
TL:DR The dev’s have a vision, and all anyone can do it toss out your ideas and hope it catches their eye. You just have to remember that the only people you need to convince are the devs, it doesn’t matter how the other players feel if the developers think your idea is correct.
Yea that’s the problem that he’s getting at though… footfall isn’t about good building… it’s about location location location. Honestly I would implement a guild system like the tribe system in ark and only so many players can go through portals. Fix this issue really quick! 15 Players MAX
At least we got a ton of discussion on the thread. Open forums are great as long as everyone remembers everyone has an opinion and at the end of the day we can all agree to disagree. . No one has still convinced me with why footfall is good or needed as a builder will build regardless. Hell i’ve gone and mined and chopped all my resources without using coin to do it. I know my place is only 55k prestige at moment but it’s all done through me not through footfall visitors. Why because i enjoy building, and building usually means getting resources. Hell i’m building a bridge to connect my island with the mainland. Will probable spend all night mining the resources to do it.
