I’d recommend mining diamond and whacking them with a transforming chisel, unless you are looking for the actual gem ore blocks. Even then, it’s probably faster to mine/bomb around in diamond heavy areas then transform the ores.
Paka’s planet Pandora is quite good for rubies. You can find it by going through the Paka’s Palace portal at the TNT Alcyon hub.
Thanks!! I also hope to have a portal there up directly to a mine before too long (maybe even change that main portal there to a mine). Public mines are my plan, a Ruby one and Emerald (Stellamaris III), maybe even Amethyst (Proserpina) but sidetracked with mapping and exploring my rentals.
I do have another one decent for rubies but no portal to it and not quite as good, that one I’ll let go (Evil Paka’s Lair ).
Thx to all of you
mc rib 2000, compact it…
and then, chissel time…
thats much better than mining rubys
@Marcello666 yeah seams you are right , but hating to chisel after doing IT for all the marble
i can chissel it 4 u…hate to chissel stones…
but gems are ok xd
Lol:joy:
@bucfanpaka What’s your secret recipe for a good ruby planet? If you’re willing to share… My attempts haven’t really worked as expected.
THAT is a good question - I’ve had a mix of luck on the Burn rentals and ruby is the one I’m having trouble pinning down. Maybe I need to run a few more experiments? Desert and mud seem to be good surfaces for them to spawn under though, and nothing too high in elevation, or lava. I think I’ve seen them under ice ok too? The flatter desert biomes and the Cube Field seemed to work best on my spots.
Actually just got a portal open to a Pandora Ruby Mine, swapped out the main portal for it. A bit later I’ll get 99c atlases on that plinth - my plan is to have all my mines sort of like this, linked to Alcyon and same basic setup, I’ll get some chrysominters and storage in them for Miners guild members to use.
Thanks for the tips! I don’t know how to get to your portals, but I might do some exploring when I am off of work today.
From TNT Alcyon, look for the Paka’s Palace portal - it is off in a corner. All my mine and T6 gleam portals will there. Haha, even though I’m technically in USE region, since I built on Alcyon, I’m now rolling all my T6s on USW in hopes the 50/50 coin toss goes that way, I’ve built a lot more portals here and may end up linking some good temporary experiments even eventually.
Next up on the mines, got a couple nice Amethyst/Emerald areas on a corrosive, I’ll work on those next.
I’m a little behind the curve (I haven’t started using the forge, making portals, etc…), and I am using gold fists to mine. Do you think farming for rubies on a T6 planet will be too slow moving? Should I continue my efforts on a T5?
My recommendation would be collect things like beans to sell, or mine lower level worlds first, and then upgrade to AOE hammers that can handle the T6s ok - in good spots you’ll turn a decent profit on a 8-9k hammer, but without at least a somewhat decent AOE hammer prob not worth mining the T6s yet.
But on the collecting, on most of my T6s I have the large canopy type trees with the big lustrous trunks. At least one of my portals goes right to the top of them. If you feel like exploring, look for those and get to the top of the canopy - VERY easy money to be made smashing up the glow caps and trumpet roots on the top. They’re quite easy to spot when on the flat lush foliage there, and sometimes tons of them. I’m taking that biome on all my T6s now even at the expense of losing gems, since they merge with gleam spheres for good farming sometimes, and the collecting is just so lucrative.
Ok, for any interested in trying Burn rentals, I did another test, and though my count was lower than Pandora, one thing jumped out already: looks like I got some good Ruby hotspot under the Graveyard biome in a couple spots. First time I picked that one.
I’ll open this one up though it will be a scrapper. Planet will be named Dracan, warp from Norkyna.
Edit: Alien Invasion I can pretty much confirm now DOES spawn a bad ground biome along with it - lots of twisted trunks all over the ground. But it works well for ruby hotspot if looking for a ruby biome!
Follow up on this: Oh yeah, Graveyard is the way to go. I have three Graveyard biomes here, they all have hotspots like this, but this is the largest one. I probably just got lucky here in the size of it, but the ruby spots under these are better than anything I’ve seen yet.
TBH, I’m tempted to try again to see if I can replicate it and get Alcyon. I’ve been messing around just here in the north end of the spot (you can see where I’m standing on the map shot, how far it stretches to the south) having my best ruby mining ever. Lot of metal too. If I could get this with Alcyon, I’d probably scrap Pandora, as this mining area is just so much better than what I have there.
Also, took Standard Caves 1 on all, unless anybody has different info or more experience with others, seems safest. From some Corrosive testing not having much lava issue with that pick.
I love your willingness to science
Thanks!! Just tried one more time… what the heck, why not?
Changed a couple things. Hoping for Alcyon, but if not, at least will see how it does on the graveyards!
This experiment worked out well. Got Alcyon, so will open a mine or two, might close the Pandora mine (can still get to Pandora from the gleam portal if so) and add in a mine from this new one. Graveyards gave good hotspot once again.
Also, tried substituting in Snowy Redwoods for another pick and it is a great choice, almost as good as Graveyard it looks like.
More hotspot on this than the other though I think the one big hotspot on the other might be a little thicker, less broken up than the ones here.
