I suppose it all depends on how much disposable coin each person has … for me to buy that seems pretty reasonable considering the adrenal glands used but if I was selling … i don’t know … I suppose on the face of it you seem to be getting a good deal but even so, with rapid fire even on a diamond slingbow they don’t last very long . … it’s a shame augments can’t compete with forged items in terms of practicality …known set ingredients
for 1 boon … augment: 1 effect applied to item for duration of durability … forged item: 3 effects for duration of durability
From what I remember the extra damage was a set amount regardless of how good the weapon was, is that still the same?
It’s a fixed amount. But it is added before skills, so skills do affect it.
I might have to take another look at them in that case because from what I remember (a long time ago) the fixed amount just didn’t seem worth it but if enough people seem to think augments are worth it in there current state then I have no problem in conceding to popular opinion… it is just a game after all
Never!
By all means, change your mind if proven to be wrong, not just because other people say you are wrong
Anyway, I’m sure I don’t need to give you any life lessons, and it was just a turn of phrase (I can be somewhat pedantic with language).
Back to the matter at hand, I made stacks of damage augments too, I try to take some with me, but find I’d rather have the extra inventory space. I don’t find it they add quite enough.
I have started preloading a stack of slings. So when I run out on one I can just unload and swap to the bow I’m using, or if my inventory space is full I can just switch bows.
Still too much of a pest for too little gain.
I just meant because it seems to me to be more of an opinion rather than an absolute fact as to whether augments are worth it I would concede to popular opinion if enough people think they are … but that doesn’t mean I’ll start using them, it would just be another part of the game that I wouldn’t bother with but I totally agree with everything you’ve said
I don’t think they are worth it. But I use them currently when I hunt(which isn’t often) because a guild member gave them to me.
Yeah it’s a pity that they are so underwhelming, they could be such a good alternative/compromise for those that don’t like using the roulette wheel/one armed bandit forge.
I swear by damage 3 augments. +400 doesn’t seem like much at first glance, but it’s added to the weapon’s base damage and thus multiplied by skillpoints and multishot. So +400 in reality (with power and slingbow spec) is +1140, which a sixtuple shot turns into up to 6840 bonus damage!
And then there’s the synergy with strength brews on top of that, which means that whenever I run out of an augment I lose over 10k damage, it’s very noticeable.
They are especially good to boost your slingbow more over the armor threshold if you’re struggling with high armor creatures. Let’s say a max damage Topaz bow, it’ll deal a measly 204 damage on an armor buffed Elite Cuttletrunk, with the augment that’s bumped up to 1344 (a 639% increase). That’s just one example.
I definitely don’t recommend going on a T7 hunt without them.
When it comes to the cost of making them, the funny thing is that despite the amount of Viscous Blood I burn through to use them (and I even sell them a lot too), thanks to the efficient hunting it’s still piling up in my storage regardless. And Cobalt is pretty cheap and consistent to get. For some of the other augments I agree though, it doesn’t seem worth most of the effects to spend precious glands.
That’s good to know how the points add up, I think I might have to have another look at them to see the difference … it’s still a pity that they take up so much space and a SS doesn’t autoload though …
Yeah, would be cool if it automatically reloaded augments. I don’t have enough space on my hotbars to carry augments around, but since I’ve had a lot of practice swapping in inventory I can get it done quickly but it’s still a nuisance. Maybe the Slingbow Epic could unlock auto-reload. At the very least the sound cue for “out of ammo” used could be less subtle. I barely ever hear it over all the ruckus.
I guess since I run a tank I don’t notice how fast they don’t die or do die since generally I’m laughing at how little damage they do unless there happens to be a tree around. Tho I do tend to grapple to the ground to avoid that.
Also I like to run speed and multi shot dmg on my bows when o have the option to. So again I don’t notice how fast it is since they tend to die quickly when I’m on top of them. I really should learn how to forge bows. Can’t be much harder than hammers right
With the augment buff I find them useful. I would stay away from crafting the ones that use more rare items.
Yeah I found that out lol … although the speed ones are pretty good with the diamond slingbow. … they just don’t last anywhere near long enough.
I put my slingbows in a row and then put the augments on them before I put them into a stack, that way when one is used up the next one already has the augment on it.
I guess I’m confused on why some are going how difficult it is to put augments on their slingbow. I forge slingbows, have made augments and then placed them, stick them in the inventory for both sides so I can even have a slingbow in both hands if I want and take off. I prefer a slingbow in one hand and a fist in the other though. Or a grapple, depends on where I’m at.
Currently, I only find damage and the speed ones useful. For the really heavy shot slingbows, the projectile speed ones makes a WORLD of difference.
It’s not really a case of it being difficult to put augments into a slingbow it’s more to do with the fact that there’s only 125 shots per augment so once those shots are finished you have to go back into your inventory to load another augment and obviously due to the fact that slingbows are used in combat it’s not very safe to be standing there while being attacked to reload a new augment. With many mobs my alt can be killed with 1-2 shots so I have to make sure I kill them before they get a chance to retaliate.
makes sense, right now I don’t do meteorites so don’t have as much as a problem as those who do. When it gets too much for me I run and then backtrack to kill when I can.
Augments would be much better if they didn’t have a limited number of shots. I wish they lasted the life of the slingbow. It would make it worthwhile to make them then.
I totally agree with that, I wouldn’t mind spending a bit more time and effort into making them if they worked that way.
