Recently made a couple of SS of slingbow augments, speed ones for use on the diamond slingbow as they are are a good heavy hitter but very slow. made the augment 3 which used a lot of adrenal glands and although they really made a significant difference and as tempting as they are to being used as a poor mans forge replacement I don’t think I’ll be wasting my time on them again.
The primary reason is that the outlay of resources required to make them in any significant quantity that will be of any practical use is completely off set by the return in benefits. For augments to be of any real use they need to be significantly increased in shots per augment otherwise they are a complete waste of time. I think this is real shame that something that could be used by many lower level players to help progress through those particularly difficult middle levels is probably just completely left alone.
Dose anyone actually really use any augments when they can just go and buy a forged weapon. I’ve not done the maths but it wouldn’t surprise me if it wasn’t possible to just sell the ingredients to make the augments and then use that coin to buy forged weapons. Sorry for the ramble and vent…
Edit: just checked, it was more or less about 8 SS of augments which i’m already half way through … very bad return on investment in time and resources in my opinion.
For me its not even about the cost of making them.
Damage augments are really useful on tier 7 hunts, but the main issue is the inventory space they take up, as well as constantly having to pause, go to inventory, equip while in the middle of battle.
Would happy pay to use one with 500 durability even if it takes up 4x (or more) resources
If you put the augments in opposite hand you can load them into the sling without going to your inventory. I’ve only ever used DMG 3 augments. I use them with forged shotguns.
Absolutely, that is another very good point i forgot to mention, out of all the SS of augments i made i only ended up carrying half of them because of the amount of space they take up (time for someone to say, “as you use them you’ll get the space back”) plus they don’t auto load so once the 125 are gone (which with rapid fire even on a diamond slingbow doesn’t last long) you then have to find somewhere safe to be able to go into your inventory (probably during battle) and put another augment in … not practical.
i’ve not tried that … so are you saying i would need to put the SS of augments in my off hand and trigger them when they run out in my slingbow and then they will load into the slingbow that is being used?
Yes for example with slingbow in left hand and the augments in the right hand. When slingbow needs to reloaded with slingbow in left hand, select the augments in the other hand and “activate” the bow will then reload.
Thanks for that tip … I’ll definitely use that with the remainder of my augments … but still think they are not really worth the resources so once they are gone I doubt I’ll be making anymore anytime soon.
Yeah, and damage augments dont really add much damage either. Perhaps they could make 5 or 10 levels of the these things. And i still think lvl 3 could use a bump.
Honestly, if they were a little better, they might be competitive with forging.
I’ve not bothered with damage augments because it’s a set amount rather than a percentage so they are only of any use to low level players but then for them the resources then don’t add up so still pointless.
I’d make a wild stab in the dark suggesting that the reason they aren’t more competitive is because they can be used in conjunction with forged gear. If they were mutually exclusive bonuses to weapons, augments would certainly have room to be more powerful and multi-purpose…
But that’s just a guess, and is likely not the actual or main reason why augments are the way they are.
I think the level 3 speed augments on the diamond bow are great … I just don’t think we get enough shots in return for the amount of time and resources put in.
Well, I buy mine at the aqua embassy’s Luxmall at the Augment Shop, I think I get enough shots for my money, but I understand it can be different for you since you crafted them and gathered the rescources.
on another note, I am all for having either a less costly recipe or having more charges on the augments
