I have Iron Slingbow and Iron Fist. It seems the fist does way more dmg per hit, and the Mastery Perk has the effect of +25% more dmg AND longer grapple range.
Does the slingbow out perform the fist ever? I mean, this game has some rubble banding issues and rapid fire slingbow doesnt seem as good as a slower but way more dmg single shot fist to the face.
Anyway,
Can someone with lots of combat experience tell me the main difference between the bow and the fist and, if at end game, one is clearly better than the other??
I am interested in this as well as I have done tests and seen that grapple mastery points do not increase range and hammer mastery points do not increase damage (although power and the damage epic does). Has this changed?
I am assuming the fist is meant to be a fun additional weapon rather than a sling bow replacement (since the fist can’t be forged, slingbows will be more powerful) but I do want to see how far its potential goes.
My initial thoughts.
Damage: fist
Range:slingbow
Group play: slingbow
Utility:fist
Speed:fist
Availability: slingbow
So the fist is pretty strong and for solo instances it can easily level the playing field when overwhelmed. However when fighting Cuttletrunks if the cuttletrunk is too high up it can lead you to receive unnecessary damage and use up a lot of stamina. For group play the fist is not very good at all, below T3 planets since you one shot creatures so your group looses out on XP making it detrimental for your team mates. I included utility in this comparison because the fist added something unique, you can sprint and break blocks in front of you making Like a long range totem. Speed also is won by the fist simply for the unbelievable amount of damage they put out. My last point is availability, anyone can make slingbows but since the fist is exclusive to EA players it makes it harder to get.
In conclusion I think if I were to pick I would take a fist any day. But since I don’t have to I will always have a fist and sling bow with me for optimization.
Maybe not endgame, but here are my thoughts.
Fist is great when you have no or little combat skills.
Slingbow is better when you have full spec hunter with maxed damage.
I like slingbow more with maxed skills cause of speed. With how much i miss, i would rather have bullet spray (and prey it hit), than slower weapon. I think i make more damage this way.
Than there is range - with fists you need to be quite close to mobs and that not always best idea.
Than materials. Top of fist is gold. Top of slingbow are titanium/gems.
Below T4 fists works, but with maxed skills i still think i can pump more dps with slingbow. On the other hand fist is perfect for not hunters - i use it for every other character.
On T4 and T5 I want to be as far from mob as i can. So only slingbow and fist maybe as backup, but I would probably leave it out. T6 didn’t try yet.
All my characters have both fist and slingbow. On most characters the fist does the most dps, but can be a bit tricky to reach some enemies without getting too close for safety, so I keep a slingbow for backup.
My hunter mainly uses the slingbow, as speccing in it will deal more dps than fist. The only time I use fist on my hunter is when the mob is armored and soaks most or all of the slingbow’s damage.
Holy ■■■■… didn’t think of it. I will need to test how it stack up against hammer on higher tiers.
If this will make hammer obsolete i will be laughing so hard… in anticipation of nerf
I used it to break some blocks when I went to higher tier worlds and had little power as a miner - higher level miner/gatherer will sure be more efficient with dedicated tools.
I’m pretty sure I read that you can’t forge the Fist weapons (correct me if I’m wrong), so there’s definitely a limit to their potency there also.
Yeah well, honostly - we should really just be able to forge fist weapons rather than having them do the extreme damage they do right now
My guild guys are dedicated miners, and he keeps telling me that its stronger than what he otherwise uses, im sure that if I went to forge titanium weapons they would be better, but thats a lot more expensive resource-wise compared to that of an iron fist which is outperforming iron tools at this point by quite a bit.
Yeah exactly - I just forged some hammers, one did sell pretty fast, though it was a 9 block hit AoE hammer with extra damage on it at the same time - forged another which has 110% crit effect on it and +530-580 damage or so, so I think its slightly stronger than a fist, the crit should atleast make it worth using I think.
But other than that, its a VERY expensive hammer to make overall :s
Combined with the Damage Epic (70% to dps modifier), the fist is overpowering and makes the slingbow irrelevant…at least when you’re dealing with small gang of NPCs.
I initially had the resistance Epic and respecced to Damage Epic. You can solo L3 meteors with impunity. I just dont’ see a reason to use a slingbow in solo combat situations.
Only problem with this is you swing hammers much faster then the fist fires. Unless we are talking about a character that isn’t spec for mining… my lvl 28 miner can 1 shot basic blocks up to level 3-4 worlds with iron hammer and select perks.
