Smart stacks are dumb

Stacks rule. Smart may be a bit of a relative term at the moment.
Outside ref incoming, sorry if it inflames anyone- but factorio logistics storage chests is how i envision really smart stacks.
Do we have a pure stack of x? Shove all of x in there till it’s full!
If not, do we have a mixed stack containing x? Fine, chuck more x in there.
If not - well just stack x wherever theres a free hole.
No free holes?! Fine… squeeze it in there next to {relative of x}.

Please make toggle-option per type of block if you want to smart stack it or not.

For example, I want to keep all my rocks separated by type and color.

But leaves and grass seeds I dont care about.

My sorting method is to move all of what im sorting into one inventory while accessing another inventory with an appropriate amount of space available… then i open each smart stack and shift click all of the, say copper ore, to the other inventory… once all the copper is out i bring it back via click and drag and start on the next ore. I keep going till i have stacks that only contain one type of ore each

As long as it is button… I’m indifferent to it.
Your method is directly opposite to mine. Everything has its place, not only stack can have one single item, but those stacks need to be in its places. I practically never shift click stuff cause imho i get back that management time in speedy finding what i need.
