Can we make this game free to play. You’d get a lot of new players and also make more with the cleam club in the long run. But also add Wayfair totems crafting to the high tier gleam club subscription and also add a $5 raise to all subscriptions. I personally would pay it. The game is worth it 100%
I’m ok with this.
Imo, any efforts to make the game F2P right now would be in vain. Early game is rough from the clunky character creation UI to the text-heavy tutorial. Some of the most important parts of enjoying the game aren’t even taught by the game at all; you have to figure them out or ask someone.
There is also a huge spike in difficulty at the beginning of gem progression if you don’t like forging and haven’t figured out how to find forged goods on markets, and that’s a largely unpalatable experience for many people.
I’d say, until a decent number those things are handled, the game won’t have enough retention to be sustainable as a F2P game.
Free To Play… maybe not; however the price needs a severe reduction at the very least. $19.99 USD, or even better, $9.99. FTP tends to have a substantial “unsavory” element in my experience.
Wayfarer totem definitely needs some kind way to access.
Change Boundless to a mobile game…
Honestly Free to Play would cause issues in the long run until some core game mechanics and play loops are fixed… if we had that we would just get people there putting beacons right next to people and spinning up plots that then just sit there… it would be like release and probably ensure some more plot fights like before. Sure I don’t expect tons of free but those game issues can lead to a lot of headaches… Lastly since the game has big starter issues I fear it will just add to negative reviews.
wait… what???
this game is FREE TO PLAY, you only need to buy this game,
noone forcing you to pay anything more to play it. no montly sub needed
im happy with my lifetime 10% plot addition :
The $39.99 price tag was my stopping point. I waited for the game to go on sale before I bought it.
Free to play would mean the game is free. No $39.99. You just download it and play it.
i know but if the game is free it means it can be stop developing anytime, so if you want to be sure game will bw on fgor a time, you need to buy it or paying sub every month, there is no free to play games
who will be hosting multiplayer online game for free?
I dont disagree. But the thought process behind a “free to play” game is to offer things like Gleam Club and an in-game shop (which is already there) to make up for the cost of the game. There are various opinions on how successful that might be.
You want some successful Free to Play game that have been around for a while?
Elder Scrolls Online, Star Trek Online, Neverwinter, Star Wars: The Old Republic are 4 that come to mind and all of them having been running for 10+ years.
ESO isn’t FTP it does get FTP events but still gotta buy the game
Let’s say Boundless gets first Monumental update and advertising push.
SCENARIO 1
Let’s say the game is cheaper - at 20 euro/dollars.
Let’s say 1000 people buy it in the first month. That’s 20k income.
Let’s assume 10% players have GC or a sovereign - let’s say 10 euro/dollars is spent monthly on average by a player player form that group.
That means 20k income from sales and 1k a month from transactions onward.
SCENARIO 2
Let’s say the game is free.
Obviously more people will try it. Let’s say 10.000 new players pick up the game in the first month.
No income from that.
The same assumption of 10% players spending money on GC, sovereigns etc., with 10 euro/dollars monthly spending on average.
That means 1000 players spending 10k a month onward.
I will take larger player base and higher continuous income over the smaller player base with one larger influx of money from game sale but less continuous profit later.
It makes sense to do one of the 2 things, I think: either have the game free to play, or really cheap (no more than 10 euro/dollars). That would ensure more new players arrive at the scene. Exposure to more clientele is crucial and more important than short term money grab.
Advertising & paying the salary of Dev(s) to update the game are high upfront costs. These aren’t free and are on-going. A one-time boost of $20k or $40k won’t cover these costs by a long shot. They can keep trying to farm 300+/- loyal players until costs exceed all profits, or they can try a different strategy that they’ve already looked into.
All games get a player/$ boost when they 1st launch or provide a large update. How quickly it dies down varies. A lot of triple AAA games drop off after a month and fire everyone. Gaming/tech is experiencing a rough adjustment period right now. I’ve seen some games that had heavy adverti$$$ing for 1+ years flop at launch, getting less than 100 reviews. Things are strange right now for the industry.
It would be great if Boundless had the buzz and success of games like NMS or BGIII, but alas, they do not. Their social medias have never been utilized (which is free & has irritated the heck out of me to watch) and they never cultivated any mainstream hype. To me, it doesn’t really matter what route they go. I would just like to see some care & movement applied towards Boundless.
I agree. In the current climate many players are fairly unhappy, and I don’t think the social media would be too positive if the current player base was to contribute to it.
It starts with a strategy and then communicating that strategy to the players.
Evaluate the game and determine if the game would generate income or at the very least pay for itself in order to maintain it.
If it’s determined it would be worth the time and money to update it, then determine what type of devs are needed, create a team, create a roadmap and make it happen.
I am a big proponent of the game. The game is a very niche game and catering to players in that niche should be the goal. The Creative Sandbox Building gamers would enjoy the game and reaching that audience is key.
But if I’m honest, while I love it, it is very outdated and in need of A LOT of love both from a new player experience to core mechanics and well, pants. Except @Coolpants apparently these are cool enough.
That said, as @majorvex mentioned, the amount of money it would take to advertise, update and maintain the game isn’t cheap and I don’t see how it can ever generate the funds to keep it afloat. A major update isn’t going to fix it but making it free to play could generate a larger audience if only for a short amount of time.
Every game though as @majorvex also mentioned does fall off over time. A better focus might be to make Boundless 2 on an updated engine with better graphics… but that’s a whole other discussion.
And with VR support can you imagine the grapples in a headset? Ugh so good
With that being said I would 1000% would advertise the game on social medias for them for free cuz I enjoy the game I’m not looking for anything out of it other than success for a game that I know will last for years to come
I agree. All I want is for the game to succeed. And to keep running for at least several more years.
