So why don’t you rally against
Sear’s
Target
Wallmart
JC Penny
Macy’s
Or any other retailer who is using female mannequins, they are obviously sexualizing the clothing!

Plenty of people take issue with the fashion industry, but that’s not at all what this is about. I’ve said my piece and that’s that
This is a total straw man and besides the point.
Why is this thread even here. The issue was settled and the facts were brought forth in th closed thread. This is just a rehashed rant. I feel that this thread was a passive aggressive attack against me for standing up for what is right. Thank you common sense people in here for responding with poise and grace as you defend a “sensitive subject.”
I appreciate everyone’s opinion and even though I like you, I will stand in front of our children first. This whole event is about setting a precedent. It is erring on the side of caution. It was absolutely handled correctly.
Let’s not get tooooooooo black and white here. There’s a debate to be had, that’s for sure, an’ that’s why I deleted my comments in the other thread so as to not get too involved, but sexualization is a deeply complicated subject, and just because he isn’t being defended’ doesn’t mean he doesn’t have supporters.
I would argue there’s 1,000 more damagin’ things to children at school than that club sign, I mean, just rememberin’ what life was like when I was in 4th grade, hooooboy, I was exposed to a lot worse than a club sign like that.
Let’s all just agree that everyone has their own definitions of appropriate and that it’s factually known exposure to sexualized things doesn’t turn children into monsters, but that Boundless doesn’t need the unnecessary criticism on Launch day, so yeah, it should be taken down.
agreed.
“If one is only looking out for ones self, or ones own interest and desires, the one will never understand the greater of either right or wrong”
There is no personal attack…
The fact is that society gets sensitive over silly things…
I remember when “Rock and Roll” Was evil and bad.
Somethings are just what they are… you don’t take stands on things that shouldnt be having a stand on…
The female siloutte is not a bad thing the word club is not a bad thing… The “Quote” underlying message is a message if you think kids need to be sheltered from messages well then your kids need to walk around this world with a blind fold…
Everything has a message and many may not be “quote” appropriate but those decisions are for a Parent to decide and nobody else…
My youngest kid is 24… My kids went out and got hurt skinned there knee’s I didnt protect them from going outside like you see today… I think this whole concept that we need to shelter kids is well bad… Kids are just as capable of understanding as an adult and sometimes they are ever more capable…
So leave the parenting with the parents… and lets not take stands on things that are NOT issues!!!
My foundation for my terminology comes from clinically researched and accepted terminology. I only argue from professionally held standards. Just as in a legally binding arena. To me, this is the dew line for standards. Not that it’s right or wrong. But I argue legalistically.
I’m glad to see that there is a common ground of whats wrong. But have you ever asked yourself how it got that way?
Guess what, it all started when people who had a product that was bad for kids, but didn’t care if they were exposed…Then parents complained, fell on deaf ears, and our kids are exposed to what you already admitted to as bad. But nothing changes unless you stand up to change it.
Don’t cave in because you can see its bad in other areas, and therefore why not. You can tell who is a parent with kids, and who are not.
So, legalistically, I’m going to rebuild the same thing but give it a flat chest. Problem solved then.
That’s the whole point. I am a parent, I am parenting by voicing my concerns.
I am also a parent and think your concerns are ridiculous.
Not going to engage in this. I’ve made my point. Gl to you.
The problem is the argument that something is “bad” is subjective. For every child who is raised to devalue women, there’s plenty of children who despite bein’ raised that way value women perfectly fine.
When something is called “bad” it shuts down conversation because it’s often an opinion, not a fact.
A fact is, yes, some people are raised to objectify n’ devalue women, and that has an impact on their development an’ how they approach the world.
But another fact is, yes, some people aren’t affected at all by imaging that might devalue women.
So the debate can’t ever begin with people claiming moral high ground from the start, because there is no 100% solution.
edit I’m sorry to hear about your terrible experience an’ what your daughter experienced, but like I said, the best way to reach people’s hearts is to work from the middle out, or you can cause them to become defensive’ like sulfurblade was.
It’s important we all make the world a safe place.
edit 2 I don’t think the Club Sign was in good taste an’ I woulda taken it down also, for what it’s worth.
edit 3 I think the right way to handle this situation is to just say that yes, that image has negative connotations, that we can all agree, but Boundless doesn’t need to be the shining beacon to try an’ restore the purity of such colors an’ poses, and has a lot bigger fish to fry than manage a PR crisis from that with Launch bein’ so soon. It just ain’t the right place or right time for such a debate.
The whole point of arguments against the obvious brothel weren’t just because of the commonly known icon or word ‘club’, but the whole concept of what it stands for when combined.
Also what would have been the point or function of that building even without one or other? It couldn’t have been used for providing adult entertainment for too long anyway without getting flag or just noticed by devs and getting erased.
And if there wouldn’t have been any pre-emptive actions against that kind profanity it would just be laughable if the devs were aiming for 7+ age rating instead of teen or higher.
By the way I also flagged this post since it doesn’t really add anything to the previously locked one and is more of a rant or really bad troll post at best.
I put a cap on the emotion button in my head. Stupid thing sounds out sometimes.
I don’t necessarily think this conversation should be shut down, because these things are gonna’ happen a LOT more when loads of new people join in. These conversations should be documented, to direct people to later, and is proof we need more transparent rules n’ such.
One thing is certain to me. We would not engage like this if we were not invested in this community and care about the consensus. Both sides of the aisle holds folks who are proud to call this community home and I think we are all brothers and sisters.
it’s not a matter whether it was in a bad taste or not
it’s not a matter of morality
it was simply a very adult content, that adults should keep for themselves and share it among themselves when there are no kids around
it’s like having an avatar here with a half naked woman in an inviting pose - not good, as this forum (and game) is not a club for man’s talk
