I was thinking the other day about how much I enjoy the sounds of Boundless. I turn off the music of the game, put on my stereo headphones and relax while I play just enjoying the ambience of birds chirping, footsteps, rain, chopping and mining etc. and I got a little bummed that I couldn’t hear my compressor compressing or my extractor humming.
I figure this was done for a design reason; the devs probably didn’t want all the noise of a busy workshop being overbearing on the other sounds going on in the game. So here’s a compromise to satisfy people like me that want to hear their machines: a craftable “sound module” that you can attach to any machine to hear it working! If you get tired of hearing all the noise, you simply remove the attachment.
It would be super useful if I could literally hear my machines stopping and know it was time to refill them, on top of being just plain satisfying to hear. I think this would be a nice compromise!
