I think it would be nice functionality to be able to place a block in the same space as a spark link to cover the link. This could be achieved literally by clicking the block on the spark link you wish to cover or you could have to craft specific facades or covers.
shrug If you do not want people seeing the spark links themselves, you always “wire” through the floor, walls, or ceiling.
That is part of why I’m making this suggestion, for the floors and walls
I fully support this, it would be really really nice
I think you would, perhaps, craft spark links with refined stone to make a “Spark Link Block”.
I’d be into that. It would certainly make workshops less messy.
I still think we need a “coil rack” that holds four power coils in one block.
This would be a nice addition. Many a time I’ve even had to buy extra plots just to dig down to hide the lines. I saw TwistedFoot had to do so as well in his most recent video. Great idea!
I usually run spark links along the ceiling and have my gleam lights under them. That’s how I set up my workshop on Laputa anyways
So, what is the problem then? They cannot be seen by anyone then?
Because it requires you to extend your build, possibly needing an entire extra plot for a line of cable. You also end up with a hole in the wall/floor/ceiling where the links pass through
Honestly, the fact that the spark link takes up a full block of space is beyond my comprehension. The fact that you can’t wire into a wall (the block it self) similar to ark is also something that baffles me.
And how would adding a block that you can place over spark links change that? You still need to occupy that space with something.
shrug This is how it has been in almost every voxel game I have played with electric stuff. Two blocks cannot occupy the same space. Only game I have seen where it was different was the now cancelled SkySaga.
This is exactly what recommending, spark link inlays
Its actually decently easy codewise in most voxel games, you code the spark link with a behavior that when clicked with a block to take the mesh of that block and replace the original render with the new one, hitting it with a chisel would remove the cover. I don’t know the exacts of the boundless’ engine, but this seems like something that could be doable
Because the links and the walls would occupy the same space instead of the links being an additional block outside the walls.
There also wouldn’t be a big hole in the wall where the link passes through.
That’s literally what has been said the whole thread
You are not making any sense. I posted before that you can build in a way that hides spark links and their wall holes. You then claimed that you would need to extend builds in some silly way to do that and the suggested blocks in this thread would fix that. That makes NO sense because all the suggested blocks in this thread do is replace the Spark Link blocks; the same space is still being used.
Oh… and there would be no wall hole problems if you just built in a way that hides the hole…
As I have tried saying before, these blocks solve no problems. This is not even a dire problem; just get more creative with your building.
No, it replaces the wall with link blocks that are covered to look like wall. I’m really not sure why that’s hard for you to understand.
Please feel free to illustrate how to get a spark link from one side of the wall to the other without leaving a hole.
The hole is still there, you just hide the hole using the machine the spark link is attached to (place the machine in front of the hole).
In an even different direction than we have all been posting, why do we even need to hide the Spark Links? This is not Minecraft where we are trying to power some hidden mechanism like a trap or secret door. We are simply using Spark Links to run between a machine and a Spark Core to power the machine. The machines themselves are already unsightly >.> Using Spark Links with machines makes them look more interesting, in my opinion.
I use trap doors, they can be places on the same block, as the spark wire.
