Spray paints precision

I think spray paints should work like chisels. Maybe you want “patch work” colors on your brick like half red half black brick. Maybe paint the top black bottom red and can chisel is so top stays same color and bottom stays the same? Or slope chisel is one color but back side is the other color you painted

The introduction of the spray paint is hopefully laying down the foundations to bring in a whole new way of adorning our builds.
What we have now is just the tip of the iceberg, with ideas like yours and others (stickers!!) coming in down the line, hopefully, in some form or fashion.

My question is then how many possible block combinations does the system have to be able to store? If a player can paint any combination of side of a block then does every block now require 6 times the amount of data because each side can be different and the game has to track that? Currently every side is the same even on designed blocks so this might be a pretty large change in data storage if every block that can be painted now has to have each side tracked.

While I like the idea, I would like some developer feedback on my concern before I could really support it.

When you paint a block you change the color of the whole block, effectively you change it into whatever color block you spray. For instance I spray a gret meta rock wiith black, it is now a black meta rock.

Correct that is what it is doing now. What the Op describes is painting one face so if they do that then you have a grey meta block with face #3 being black.

Ah yes, that would be very memory and lliad intensive.
