You build a stair out of couches?
I’m not sure if that’s really a thing or my imagination but I don’t like copper-chissel ramps, I always use iron-chissel ones. They seem to somehow… behave more naturally… you seem to have more… gravity? traction? on them with high speeds.

sometimes only steps fit in with a builds look…
but sometimes, when able to time it right, being able to grapple into descending slope at speed is kinda fun 
(and run/jump from an ascending slope…)
You build windows out of doors?

Ramps are faster. Stairs add detail and character.
I continue to vote for (almost free of-cost) short-range portals which can be used to build elevators (with button-controlled multi-destinations for several levels in a house. As long as this is used only inside of a beacon, it should not need continueous shards filling, just a starter amount. And it is smaller, more efficient (etc) that stairs or ramps!
