Storage suggestion

Storage should be easier. Currently it feels ‘‘clunky’’ with all the multistacks and small storage blocks/storage shelves.

My personal opinion is that it’s rather annoying to store stuff in workbenches in the beginning stage of the game. It was very difficult for me to find iron to make nails, so I had to store my stuff in all containers available, which created an unneeded logistical headache. A good example of a simple and effective storage system is Minecraft. It was easy to store things and chests were very easy to make. I believe storage should not be a chore.

My suggestions:

*Remove multistacks

*Make storage easier to make (easier available at the start of the game).

*Bigger storage to store stuff in to compensate for removal of multistacks.

Plz comment what you think below, perhaps this is just a problem for me?

I feel the storage is just alright, only issue i have is the GUI :stuck_out_tongue:

To be fair your first pieces of iron (atleast in my case) went straight to storage, then to refinery (or was it mixer?)

But yea i can see the issue being atleast new players struggling alittle bit (because they are no familiar with t he game yet) and it is a bit more complex than minecraft and all of that in the beginning.

They could in theory tho, just add a 1 slot storage block that is built out of wood and sticks (for the beginning)

storage’s are indeed kind of useless at the moment, the only benefit is that when you mass product you can keep everything in a smaller space. other than that its mostly for aesthetic/personal preference since you can easily store all your stuff inside machines. for the recipe, it definitely should be easier to make so it would attract more interests to create them and use them how they are intended to. size and multistacks are fine tough.

i think the stone storage blocks should be a cheap in crafting, 1xAny stone, but the wooden shelves should stay as they are now. And no chests (!). I had enough “Minecraft” and “Terraria” with their chests, when you need to open and look into each chest if you do not have a well organized warehouse. And with the shelves is much easier - saw and took!

Now, after the resource redistribution, I will agree that iron is tough to find for shelves. That’s an easy issue to fix with additional balance changes.

Frankly though, I find your suggestion to remove multistacking to be absurd.

Unlike many of my fellow veterans here though, I don’t think chests have no place in Boundless. Rather instead, I think they should function as a vanity storage item, having high crafting costs in time and materials and skill. Whether or not they actually display items inside is a topic for some debate, but it does not matter to me. Just don’t make them the bulk storage solution like minecraft.

I’m against removing multistacks, if anything it’s a feature I didn’t know about when I started the game, and I’ve fallen in love with it since the first time I played. Getting rid of multistacks, won’t only affect miners or gatherers on trips, but also explorers. Imagine being a specialist in exploring, Not having multistacks, not being able to craft the basics, and having to carry the chest all around. Leave it on a spot every time. I don’t think Boundless should take away the thing that makes it unique from other games.

Storage is just fine, really, it should be fixed with fixing iron distribution, just like mentioned above. About the size, maybe we could introduce some new storage craftable, but I think the shelves we currently have, are good, they’re modular, so they can fill the bigger and smaller of spaces.

my only complaint about storage is it’s rather expensive, even with common iron. so much glue. but then, it’s all about finding a balance, and this is pre-alpha, and it’s so good, i’m not inclined to put forward a solution for it, so i shouldn’t even be complaining

I love storage blocks - can have decorative qualities for those who like their space to be both organized and looking nice (all the colors it can get from stones you use to build them).

Agree with the veteran players that either making it cheaper or adding different (more basic) storage item is a way to go.

And multistacks are awesome. :sunglasses: :boundless:
