by the way… would like to report bad names (no offencxe to the people who thought it would be funny :P) Clit-oris
and i think @Jenndragonfly mentioned someone was called Labeia?

Not to mention people by the names of Coc.ksucker and etc (obviously remove the hyphens and periods )

Hey, i’m Clit.oris, and Lab.ia, they are two of my alts. I don’t meant to offend, I’m of the opinion that it is absurd to sensor anatomical words, as we all (usually) have bodies, and it seems a silly to deny this, hense i always try to slip a few into any online name situations i can. Could this be down to player preference? (for example a filter to remove words relating to the body in the menu), or should there be a blanket ban on all anatomy?

sorry i honestly thought it was someone trolling, i guess as it is in-game still (you have not been asked to change it) then thats fine :)… i just meant to say… that although one side is humorous and the other side is funny… it could easily be used to troll/and etc

thanks for comming forward lol

Also, it does not offend me personally… as i say i think its funny… you say anotomically correc… i would agree obv… but is it not some kind of WoW name a 10 year old would use (no offence) and also as i said it can be confusing if you are a troll or not

:slight_smile: no need to apologise, its an interesting line to draw, where to class someone as a Troll, Trying to Be Funny, or Trying to Make A Point, one i noticed @endymion seems to be dancing along at the moment…

My use of such anatomical names is meant to span over the last two, but i can see how it could be interpreted as the first, one of the many lines you have to work out when designing an online game with such a variety of people playing i suppose.

I fall on the side of allowing players to choose how they want to play (trough giving more options in menu or different areas to play in), over having the game mechanics choose such things (such as filtering out words or not allowing people to build above anyone’s beacon), but i am all for people bringing these things up and talking about how they see it, as communication is key, especially in the early stages of a games development…

thank you for understanding… i am also coming from the fact - as a parent (regardless of personal my maturity - which has always been questionable :P) this is supposed to be a game for everyone… ofc i don’t expect a 4 year old to ever understand how to play this game, unless they were a genius mensa kid… however,

  • other parents may be like GASP!!! - Gearge! WTF are you playing a game where someone calls themself Cli-toris (which you can actually see is shielded on this forum when written properly)… I am going to refund this game right now! etc

  • not to mention the other person i mentioned who honestly has a toon called co.cksucker <<< this is what i am mainly on about (if you can do it with yours… CS can do it with his… why not F.uckmouth… or cu**Lips? … where do you draw the line?

Indeed, im not a parent myself, though i feel i wouldn’t want to sensor my children in this way if i do ever have any, but then it is not for me to decide how others should parent there children, and option for a Filter for children may help with this, or perhaps better an option to remove the filter if you want, as this way no accidental cocks for all the little boys and girls…

It’s not your liability ultimately, it’s the dev’s’s’s. They will most certainly have a report name functionailty later on and things like this will not be acceptable come release because of the fact that many children will be playing. If they don’t have some kind of control in place there will be a lot of unhappy moms and dads.

Of course I completely agree with your stance! It’s not really a huge issue… but for some people it is. In business you gotta try to make everyone happy :/.

i agree with both points… on one hand (let’s use WoW as a true example this time) WoW has a profanity filter - as do most mmos why not extend this to Names (one one side of the argument… it is funny) but then the other side says - i also agree btw… well my kid unlocks profanity regardless… and he is only nine… why should it not be forced… or hey my kid can do as he likes… the pc is his after all…

A tricky situation basically

Indeed there defiantly needs to be something in place, but there are different options for the devs to choose from. They don’t need to force things from people, merely filter anything that has been reported for people who have not chosen to be able to use (and view) the breadth of the symbols available to each other (would love to bump into <<<<<<<<<<<<<<()84 or Ass Cloak around the boundless universe, it should be boundless after all) , though i would think a character limit is obviously needed, and if the filter was automatically turned on, with a warning if it is turned on (even having the option to turn the filter off hidden deeper in the menu (such as with the chat filter in Elder Scrolls Online)).

Its obviously for the devs to decide, but may somehow be useful for us to have these discussions in the community to, especially before 1.0…

Also what if someone builds a labi-a, or a field of phallus (damn it i have given myself a dangerous idea now), that being said, some of the builds in the Dev universe in the trailers could be considered yonic, hmmmmm…

LOL… joking aside i know exactly what you mean… and yes, i agree with the filter (extending to names) its just that i saw your name in game and thought *hmmmm… ok… is this person having a laugh… or being a *** etc :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re right there are many different solutions, for creations its more difficult though. In my mind, the easiest one would be to erase all flagged content that has been reviewed by a content reviewer on the team instead of blur it.

In regards to trying to make a point and talking more about NSFW creations, I have many friends (from San Fransisco :P) who are proponents of breaking social norms. As everyone must know though, society cannot change overnight and it is a little unfair leaving the devs in charge of being a catalyst for that particular movement in video games. We can’t expect for them to be okay with people creating with what people may misinterpret as obscene. I doubt that their intention was to let it be acceptable for people to large houses shaped very clearly like a p*nis. My point is, while censorship would be a solution, just remember that they have the right to remove all content.

Forgot the more important part in their T&A

Creating contents such as castles, dungeons, statues, etc in the Game or through the Service with other users and Turbulenz Limited representatives, (collectively, “In-game Content”) is another integral part of the Game and the Service.

As the Game is online and all the In-game content created within the game are made accessible to the public, please think carefully before making any content available in the Game. Here are a list of rules all users of the Site and Game must follow. Not abiding to these rule could not only get your in-game contents removed from the Game but also get you banned from the Site and Game.

The In-game Content created must be:

  • not be offensive to people;

  • not be illegal or unlawful;

  • be honest and not mislead, trick or exploit anyone else nor impersonate others;

  • not infringe anyone’s copyright or other rights;

  • not be racist, sexist or homophobic;

  • not be bullying or trolling;

  • not damage our or another person’s reputation;

  • not include pornography;

  • not include advertising.

    That was indeed one lady I do not dare to invite to the dance again for the moment! I learned from that experience @Samski, that my involvement, perspective of this (Boundless) world - or these forums - would commend the babysitting of our current dominant culture. I regret it, and for that reason I will only answer questions should they occur - and not try and ask them myself for now. It is perhaps wise to find the answer in ourselves. As we stand ‘trial’ before the others: why do we consider it a problem. What point of view or stance justifies it for ourselves?

    We only have to trust ourselves! :slight_smile:

    It would be terrible if they hadn’t included such terms with the game, also thanks for posting them, for some reason i didint read through all the T and C’s :stuck_out_tongue: And it is i suppose up to the devs as well as the community to decide where to draw the lines around what this means, and ultimately not offend anyone, too much :slight_smile: Also would be good if there is a way for people to still do what they want, especially if there will be privately rented worlds.

    Perhaps this is me putting too much faith in the potential of the game, but i feel if the Devs truly make a stand here, society, throughout the world, could be transformed over night, people will come together, hate and contempt will be things of the past, and the limits of what we will be able to achieve will be BOUNDLESS!

    It’s okay, I didn’t read them either. Nobody does hahaha.

    Edit: Shhh don’t tell the devs :stuck_out_tongue:
