Why do messages have to be polled instead of pushed to clients immediately when they’re received? Will eliminate delays altogether that way.
@james Is creative mode coming out in earnest this coming week? If so, how will it be represented in the universe? Will there be specific planets designated for creative mode or will planets be rentable? If creative mode is going to just sit in F1 menu and not really be usable in the live game at all, I’m going to be a sad panda.
According to the releasenotes for Testing it is going tot stay (live) behind F1 for now i think
Right, I get that but F1 is accessible on live servers. Where will this creative mode actually be “usable”?
Honestly this should’ve been a background patch. I was all for it initially but I didn’t realize it would take this long to move to the next stage. At this point I feel like a lot of people have lost interest for the game, myself included. I hope they come back to back with this release and a new testing update with a lot more stuff accessible for PS4
As far as I understand it it will be under F1 like it is now on Testing. So when it moves to an actual release state one can start their own creative worlds in the same way as now on Testing is the case.
Not entirely sure what you mean by ‘where it will be usable’ tho…
I can fully understand and honestly am going that route too, other things are making it fuzzy if it’s just the game or partly me, but still…
I hope so too. And I kinda hope all this and the next updates are making sure we can get full fledged rental planets. Tho honestly the idea of even moving my workshop to my own rental planet is so not something I want to be doing right now so I honestly have no idea if I even want one anymore…
Did anyone see if ‘remember last channel you were in’ is a part of this update?
Every time I log in I have to re update the chat channel to the ones I want to listen to…would love that to save session to session.
I don’t understand the request here. The game listens to all the channels and you can only view a single channel at once. (Ignoring “All”.)
This, makes me really, really sad. @james said that creative mode will move forward based on how much use it gets but I know of literally nobody who uses the offline self-generated worlds. I’ve played since release 60-something in EA and I didn’t even know this was a thing.
If creative mode’s future is being based on whether people fire up the client locally and run their own world, then that likely means creative mode is dead…
I apologize for phrasing that poorly!
When I log in on my main character I want to be in the All chat. Every time I log in, I have to update that and select ‘All’ again.
With my alt character I just care about Guild Chat for one faction they are in. And each time I log in as them I have to change the channel back to that Guild Chat.
I was hoping that it would save session to session so that I don’t have to change it every time I log in. I have heard a few others ask for this request on the forum. I can drum up some posts if you would like !
Thanks!
Interesting that you want it per character too…
Any word @james or @lucadeltodecso on whether creative mode is eventually going to be part of the live universe in some capacity or if there will be purchaseable creative online planets?
We are always asking for crazy things right?
Yeah, I loaded each one and somehow the color scheme managed to be slightly annoying on all of them. Then I booted up the literal sandbox, and I realized that that wasn’t so hot either. Then I bought Surviving Mars on sale and went on a massive binge. Fast forward two weeks…
If they still have the code for Elopor hidden on a hard drive somewhere in the office, I’d sure love to know where that is.
One thing I have noticed on testing and in creative mode is I still have to forge in
order to be able to landscape. I have to forge liquid gatherers in order to remove water or lava from the landscape. If I want to remove a large amount of landscape without it taking forever or using the uncertainly of throwing bombs I have to forge AOE tools.
Is there any chance of being able to create items which currently have to be forged in creative without forging them?
From what I have read above, there does appear to be some interest in this. That being said it looks like a somewhat small set of people (I could be wrong, just my impression) who code and are modders.
I think the concept is great, but for myself I don’t care or want to learn the background stuff on how to make my own planet. My guess is that this going to evolve so that the less code/mod minded will be able to use a more friendly version. Or maybe it won’t. I would be interested in this mode when I can enter or click boxes for what I would like and then it would generate the world. Example would be:
- Landscape - Hills
- Liquid - Water (not lava)
- Colors of rocks
- Colors of soils, sand, gravel
- Colors of tree trunks and leaves
- Gleam color
- Resources and how much of them
- Tier of planet
- Weather affects
- Monster types and their level if not determined by Tier
- Etc, etc, etc, etc
Then hit a create button and there is my planet. The background on HOW to get to those choices is what I don’t care about or really understand how to do, which is probably why I have no interest. This type of selection(s) is/are in the World Builder but the whole connecting the boxes and how to make it work was lost on me.
I get that people with way more skills in this area are more enthusiastic then I am. This is just one very small opinion given as my feedback.
A “creative mode” world could never be part of the main MMO universe as it would break the rules of the universe.
We do plan to offer creative mode worlds as a paid hosted service (we host the world for you) and self hosted (you host the world yourself). Other players would still be able to visit these worlds - but the economies would be separated.
Thanks, @james. Literally the MOMENT creative planets are up for rent via your paid hosting service, I’ll be buying one.
Is there any rough, ballpark timeline for that? Nobody can rightfully hold you to it - I think we’d just love some idea of whether we’re looking at something like a month, three months, six months or a year+ out on this even if it’s just an initial, MVP version.
It’s been a long time since I’ve had interest in this game. I’m very excited to check this out and see the full capability of the API being offered. I lost my interest in the game as it went a much different way than I originally had anticipated it would and if the modding here is capable enough that I can develop and reshape gameplay or in general make cool things using my skills/background I for one will be very happy.
