So what abuse are you worried about? Sorry if I missed it.
I am on the same boat, but i think the only abuse i could see is the infinite storage issue. It seams @scrufola pointed it out how to fix it.
If its the fact that you can move on a lot stuff at the same time, i.e after a mining session etc, you still have to move to your beaconed area and drop the goods then reclaim it and can’t use it for x amount of time. Idk what is the difference between that and warp to home for free and comeback. May save you about 5 min.
I’ll find a way. Also its only been out for a day or two, need time to be creative to figure out a possible abuse
What I want to know(and I might have missed it while reading) is what happened if a player finds an expiring build and starts taking the materials? Does the original owner lose all that?
What I understood is that each plot is reclaimed one by one and everything inside becomes Ash, so no one can loot expiring beacons anymore
From what I understand, when the beacon expires it goes into reclaim mode. At that point no one, not even the beacon owner can take materials out of the beacon. The owner also cannot refuel the beacon at this point. What this means is no more salvaging materials from an expired beacon. The beacon stays in reclaim mode until; all the plots are removed and al the materials are converted to ash. At that point the area is wild.
HI, I have taken the time to read a 2nd time through all posts of this thread and feel that I have to express my personal concerns how this feature is presented and what (unneeded) discussions it causes:
1/ I did a first test on the test servers for beacon reclaim working and I am quite happy that it is a solution to a definite problem in the game: loss of gathered items when beacon fuel is expiring. I am sure that with some work / tests / clarification it should be made available to ALL players, especially to us casual guys which may not log in every day and immediately check for fuel status of all beacons on multiple planets. As a GC member, I also do not feel the need anymore to log in so often, but my last experience with expiration was exactly when GC expired!
2/ Now there is - in this thread - the early mentioning of a possible “abuse of beacon reeclaim”. I check twice and I found out that @James himself introduced this characteristic! So I see a game feature announced where the developer himself presents a solution to a known/accepetd problem and states that the solution feature “can be abused”! Personally I had the feeling that the text explaining that abuse scenario was doen with a small hidden grinning in the face of James as he also detailed that the reclaim function is “capable of a more flexible and expanded” way. This is OK for me that the solution is solving my problem BUT it is not ok, when it starts causing new/more problems as side effects. Then the design of the solution is NOT PROPERLY done!
3/ I would look at this topic differently if users (we as players of the game) would experience that someone starts to abuse a game feature and we notify the developer of a needed counter action to stop abuse. But if a presented feature in the game has clearly defined capabilities the recognition if there is abuse is - in my opinion - very difficult. Example: the designer of a Mercedes Benz car certainly did see that it is possible and allowed that owners of dogs, cats etc should transport these animals with such cars. Perhaps they did not expect an owner of such a car to push a small horse into the car also and happily drive around with it also! But these engineers never would tell buyers of a Benz that they have to pay some amount of some currency when they use this car for horse transportation! Btw: in germany the police will tell you not to use your car for this task.
4/ Beyond that I feel absolutely sure that we FIRST have to check that the proposed solution is really a (almost perfect) solution for our problem BEFORE we start to discuss special use cases beyond the problem. A direct question that I do see when I tried to understand that “abuse” scenario and the reason to inttrduce a cost of use is: When multiple beacons expire - remember I am a GC member - at the same time all items are merged into one storage and the information from where the item was taken is lost. If I as a returning player want to use the reclaim storage to rebuild all my expired beacons (perhaps on different planets), I need an allowed and cost-free function to spread and re-distribute all items to multiple new beacons. Such a restre action is very similar to the give abuse scenario but I certainly will not honor a cost - caused by a design that drops the origin of an item when putting it into that reclaim bag (or is it now a BL “cloud” already?).
I think - again: my private opinion - that it is too early to paint complex abuse horrors in context with a “more flexible than needed” solution and perhaps cause a crippled reclaim making it to the patches delivered. If someone plans to implement a BL cloud feature then it should be discussed and evaluated in that context - and properly designed / implemented / documented and finally monitored in the real game use. If the reclaim function uses an implemented mechanism that is capable of doing more than the needed functionality then block its additional functions until a expanded feature which solves different problems is ready to be discussed.
To express it again: I highy appreciate the work of the dev team and most of the communication with us and especially I look forward to have the reclaim feature as a safeguard for my casual gaming mode! I only feel that the discussion should concentrate on the evaluation of the problem to be solved and not on possible miss-use of a few people. There are so few players currently where I see they all want a succesful cooperative game running. I certainly will try not to abuse any game feature - when I finally have understood it
you know, i got nothing yeah that’s right i got nothing.
whatever the change i will adapt to it like i have always done. But others might disagree with me
lets see where this takes us.
but… nah!
so i’m staying away from this thread xD
waves goodbye
Yes, thankfully newbies are swimming in cubits!
Maybe not swimming, but obtainable via leveling. Cubits were easier than coin for me in the beginning. Just going based on experience @AeneaGames . I understand others wont agree though, not expecting it.
Anyone who has hit the “cant reclaim forged tools”; could you provide more info about the tools themselves? eg what the right-click detail section shows. I’ve not been able to repro the problem yet.
I’m not sure if this is what you mean, but I wasn’t able to get my forged tools back. Everytime I tried to, it crashed.
could you right-click on that umbris hammer so i can see its forged details?
Just had the error now… for a solidifier wayfarer totem
Also for the amethyst lattice chisel just below it
and the liquid breaker iron hammer
also another solidifier
I think all of these forges were old ones as well - so nothing new forged in this update
now to figure out which forge boons/defects give those stats/details
so wayfarer totem + solidify boon only seems to give those sames stats… but doesnt crash when i move it out of the reclaim for me! boo.
Good luck!
and no issue for me bah
The reclaimed beacon was a new one, placed to test this new feature.
The forged tools were forged before the update.
The reclaim-to beacon was newly placed.
dont suppose you or @Stretchious have the boundless-proxy thing running and could grab me the network data actually being sent when you move the item?
