Testing 245: Sovereign Worlds!

The aim is to allow players to use a beacon on a sovereign world as their home beacon - the issue we need to resolve is what happens if this beacon is no longer accessible.

just off the top of my small head:

2 x home beacons and/or sovereign home beacon disabled until a public home world beacon set
or public world beacon automatically (or can be chosen) becomes home beacon if sovereign world is locked

anyone else with some solutions for this issue?

Could it be made to revert to the first step of the tutorial? Reverting to the highest prestige beacon would be one option, but as mentioned earlier in the topic, if there are no other beacons or locations saved that is an issue, so one fix I could see is going back to the first step of a tutorial, or a modified step, regardless of whether you have other beacons (just simpler). So your home beacon is on a rental which expires. Next time you hit Sanctum, you get a modified version of the tutorial steps-

“Your Sovereign World has expired. Please select a region in the known universe to return to.” (Select USE, ect. then tranquil or not)

Sanctum Elder hands over another totem and warp augment.

That would settle the issue perhaps? From any T1 or T2, wouldn’t take THAT much work to get back to another beacon, or set a new one up if you don’t have one. Edit: Also this would be useful if say, person took a long break where their other beacons expired too.

Edit again: Would have to set something though with this method though so that exoworlds couldn’t be accessed until the new tutorial/quest step activated with this to set/create a new beacon was fulfilled. Actually, method could be useful for those, like IIRC Creegle’s son, where someone takes a break, last place they were was an exo and their beacons expire. OR, they take a break and were on someone else’s sovereign world last, same result there if that expires. If the game detects no home beacon and no planet, whether exo or Sovereign, revert to this new step.

Edit again (on a roll this morning, haha) - So, possible wording could be - regardless of situation that results in no planet + no home beacon -

“Your most recent planet is no longer available (if possible to code specification, say it was a Sovereign World that expired, do so, but not needed perhaps) and no home beacon is detected. Please select a region in the known universe to return to and establish a new home beacon.” (continues as above, to new modified tutorial/quest ending with creating a new beacon or setting one as home)

… This would cover any contingency, I THINK. So, someone gets cute, goes straight to an exo without establishing/setting a beacon and gets stranded, rinse and repeat this new step.

Yeah revert to tutorial would be my suggestion too. Or highest prestige beacon (and if you now have zero beacons, revert to tutorial)

Maybe: In case the home beacon is on a locked world, allow a free warp to the capital city of the public world the locked world is orbiting, if no capital city exists pick random location?

As someone else mentioned you could allow them to warp to the capital of the planet the rental was connected to!

(or don’t allow to delete all locations like the first ever initial warp location you make in sanctum)

Nice idea but that costs more work I suppose then making sure someone doesn’t delete the initial warp point they made when in sanctum…

LOL, I had replied that too without reading further, haha

I would say the best solution is to force the player to keep a beacon on a public planet if they want their home beacon to be on a Sovereign planet. If they have a beacon location then they have a place to warp to. If their home beacon goes away with a sovereign planet, then they can warp once for free to another of that character’s beacons. The one they pick is then their new home beacon.

Why would a player want to even go to their initial landing point? They could and probably have nothing there. Their initial landing point could no longer exist as an unclaimed, unmodified area. What if it is now a lava field? What if it is in the middle of a build where the player has restricted warping? What if it is under a players build? At least if they go to another of their own beacons, they have a reason for the beacon still to exist and they control the landing spot.

Edit: In any case, I know I do not have my initial warp location saved for any character so they need a solution that works for existing players that may have deleted the location as well as new characters.

What would happen though if they let both the rental and their other beacons expire and their last planet they were on was a rental that expired? It would bring up the same situation that comes when that happened before with an exo expiring and the expiration of beacons.

I like the initial warp spot idea - IS a lot simpler - but yep, there would be the question if the warp is then in a spot that you couldn’t get out of or somehow inaccessible (though I suppose you might be able to return to Sanctum and keep bumping it). Or if like me that location save is long deleted.

My idea is a lot more work for sure… I think the advantage would be in guiding/nudging people towards setting up a new one, and giving a little choice/narrowing down the new spawn spot. Give me a totem and warp in Sanctum, even without any equipment I could very likely get where I want to pretty quick by hitting to near any place I see a bunch of portals on a T1 (I get my new alts to my Raxxa place pretty quickly). Potentially a lot less work and a lot safer than warping to a capital on a higher tier world (a possibility if your rental was one it sounds like) that might not have portals, or a random spot. For someone coming back from a LONG break, would give some direction… hey, you need to do this again (skip the campfire, just the steps to set up a beacon), repeat the initial steps, though complete the new tutorial/quest as soon as a new home beacon is set.

Best Ideas I’ve seen on here so far, are auto-open a warp to the capital of the world the locked sovereign world was connected to, or just give the player a warp augment and totem and let them pick a location on that same connected perm-world.

Same thing that happens now. Letting a beacon expire does not remove it from the list of places you can warp to. I have characters where the home beacon is gone and they still have the location saved and can warp to it. As long as the location is in the list the continuing existence of the beacon has nothing to do with it.

This is how a player returns to the game if all their beacons are reclaimed.

@james I didn’t get to test much, as it is storming here and my internet is being kind of terrible. I did manage to change colors a few times and everything seemed to go okay there. I did crash at first, when game loaded and I was in sanctuary I clicked portal to go to the world beacon/home beacon and crashed. Unsure if this was due to the storms though…I don’t have any friends so unable to test permissions lol.

Side note though, my birthday is Thursday…would love to gift myself a brand new shiny planet!!:birthday::ringer_planet:

Ok thanks, didn’t realize that it still saved the spot! But then, could also get the issue of somebody took over that spot and changed it so it was inescapable or tough to get out of, I suppose. And could they possibly let that beacon expire, remove the location from the list (if you can remove it), then go to a rental/exo and get stuck if no other locations/friends are available (real off chance, just thinking of ways it could maybe be broken).

For those that take real long term breaks, may still help to get a bit of a do-over shot, picking a new spot and walking through a few of the initial steps again? Rather than warping back in to find something totally different there. Now getting OT, but maybe even expand it to any who have an expired home beacon, hand them a warp and totem too, notification message of what happened and let them pick a new spot to land (on the planet they left off on, for them, if not on an locked/vanished one), walk them through basic beacon setup/reclaim.

Allow resetting a Sovereign World’s Block Colours once per payment cycle.

To enable this feature, player-placed blocks will never use the “0” world default colorIndex (as can be seen in the Player Debug window) on a Sovereign World so that when changing Block Colours, user builds will not change colours as well.
As a result of these changes, Beacon Prestige on a Sovereign World will work slightly differently, no longer being able to take into account whether blocks are “foreign coloured” or not, and so will find prestige to be slightly lower in general. (This does not affect any beacon prestige on normal worlds!!).
Due to these changes, the way that a Sovereign World behaves when Colours have not been finalised is also changed, with the “only” restriction being that default-coloured non-user-placed blocks will not produce “coloured” drops, which also affects Beacon Reclaims that may sometimes gather up such blocks too when modified by a user (This means there are no longer restrictions on placing blocks either, and creatures and meteorites will fall as normal even when Block Colours are not finalised).

This is why …
