Testing 245: Sovereign Worlds!

That stinks … But if it has to be done for us to get the worlds so be it

Yes I had cuttletrunks, spitters, and hoppers all attacking me and I had meteors landing but I read the post from James at one point where I think he said meteors would fall before finalizing. Not sure about the enemies

Edit: didn’t see somebody already responded never mind me!!

Thanks Soju for pointing this out. This is definitely a concern for me. It is troublesome if I have to back and forth changing skill page to do various tasks.

I hope the devs would have a solution to this problem

Yeah especially since portals load rather slow as compared to my pc on same network, needing to portal twice ain’t gonna be fun

Store all the planet info on a computer if it’s locked and re distribute it into the server if the player pays again. no beacon expiration and no cost to run

It sounds like using the home beacon as the ‘escape’ option is a growing problem. If I recall correctly, the same things that are holding you back allowing home beacons on sovereign planets were also the reason why we couldn’t assign another alt/guild/player’s beacon as our home (an oft requested feature).

Perhaps it’s time to look for a deeper solution and decouple those features?

the other player’s beacon as home is more that you cant have a beacon in your list if you dont either own it, or have permissions on it; so if the owner removed your permissions/permissions were removed in some way via guild changes, itd be an invalid beacon and you’d have “no home” again.

Most of my characters have “no home” right now. Since they’re also mostly single purpose it’s not even an issue at all.

I understand it’s a bit more significant if you lose access to an entire planet. If it’s not a ridiculous amount of work to program the check/condition then a free warp to the nearest public world should be fine for most people, IMO. Wherever “Warp to Capitol” would already take them.

It should trigger on the inaccessible planet though not a deleted Home beacon. Not having a live beacon at your “home” location is (can be) a desirable situation in the game

My gatherer placed a beacon then I Set it as home, later I took down the beacon and put a new one with another alt. I can still send my alt with no beacon to the home that doesn’t exist anymore :face_with_monocle:

because its still “your” beacon

They don’t have to be on the same steam/boundless account. On warping home the sanctum warp opens inside the plotted space still.

In my current situation it’s not roofed but as long as the floor doesn’t interfere with max height I’m not sure if that would make a difference or not to be honest. I could easily place a roof over the plot in question if this isn’t the behavior you expect.

I do hope people will leave their test worlds publicly available as much as possible for those that don’t have them to at least explore and see the type of worlds that are being generated by the system.

My test world is public and can be plotted. It’s 1 blinksec away from biitula. There’s a portal to it near the capital of biitula. Bout 3 plots away. Hard to miss the cube of water, glass and gleam lanterns.

So I’m not seeing any “owner” entry in any of the World details. So how are we going to be able to know who we should contact on a world if we want to work with the owner, etc.? Has anyone posted about this or am I just missing the spot this shows?

I agree. I’d like to see some info added somewhere. (Owner info, main base/infocenter location, etc)

Not a clue. Didn’t look at that

Yeah if they aren’t going to do that (which is a good idea to have some of those things you put in the post) then at least some way to mark a town or something as the owners so that person can put up a sign or something. I do know that the UI system can be a pain so I am not sure what @James might think is best… I just can see a lot of issues with people not knowing anything about the planet. How can your risk plotting if you don’t even know the rules, expectations, etc. of the owner.

My test world Endelumilans is public and available for entry via a portal on Dand here.

About the “no cost to run” bit. I’m not sure if you are referring to cost to players/beacons/portals or if you are referring to the dev’s expenses, but apparently the cost to maintain a “locked” world (keep a backup of it) is not trivial.

I’m hoping there will be an option at setup to skip the locked step and fully terminate when they lapse to help facilitate an idea I have
