The LARGEST problem with boundless... crafting times... crafting times... crafting times

Can someone please… just give me ANY reason to have them? I understand you can reduce them with the power coils, but that just seems like an unnecessary thing that could be removed if you just removed cook times. The timer should be the time it takes to gather the mats… not the time it takes to craft an item…
JUST REMOVE THEM… heck, if you don’t believe me, try removing it from one machine first. I’ll help you out, THE CENTRAFORGE… Test it on this, and I CAN GUARANTEE NOTHING WILL CHANGE other than the opinions of your game and the play time increased because we aren’t sitting on other games waiting for what feels like a mobile game que time. (And maybe the redundant tables)

The excuse is that, it’s because it’s an MMORPG.

It’s an MMORPG so the game needs grinding to slow people down, crafting needs timers to slow people down, it needs grind walls to slow people down, it needs complicated grind heavy recipies to slow people down.

One excuse I hear all the time is “It’s an MMO, it shouldn’t take you can 30 minutes to get a high end up, it should take you days and require talking with multiple people.”.

All I hear are excuses on why the game is being held back, and not able to grow or shine, because people keep stuffing it in a lable, and not letting the game become creative, or sandbox, like it’s meant to be.

Yea but even with that as an excuse, name ONE other mmorpg that does this? LOL I can’t think of ANY! I have played literally over 100 mmorpgs. Crafting has always been instant, it’s obtaining the mats that was the time killer.

while we are at it, require a follow up as to why yes… because they have a point of entry for mats, and they have a sink for the mats, which LITERALLY renders crafting times pointless. I would love to see how ANYONE could argue the wait for the sake of waiting. It has NO PURPOSE outside of crafting multiple tables to render it pointless by just making players do it in 50 different machines and being annoying rather than just doing it with
one and NOT.

SWTOR has ‘Time Sinks’ for both setting out companions to do missions, and to craft.

But for that, and other MMOs, the reason is because Professions/Jobs/Crafting is seconday background noice to the main game. Where as in Boundless, Crafting IS the main purpose and focus.

Indeed, I just did this myself not even 3 days ago, when I posted my shop advertisement. In my shop, my basement now has a room filled with 30 Workbenches, which I crafted 7 Iron Tools Recipies on each, each tool taking 20 mins to pop, so only 2 hours and 20 minutes. But it was 200 Mass Crafts total, if I had all of that done in 1 machine, it would take 67 hours total. Longer actually, as the machines can only hold the inventory for 7 Mass Crafts of tools anyways,I think, which is why I split it up for that much at max.

But yes, it was a pain in the ass to set up, and higher Recipies take longer to craft. Just look at Stone and Refine Stone. Stone takes 4 mins and 10s, while Refine stone takes 25 mins.

But worse yet, the Timers aren’t even balanced! Rock to stone takes 4 mins and 10s, but Trunk to Wood is INSTANT, same with Trunks to Sticks.

The game is NOT an MMORPG, it should NOT be slowing players down. It’s a creative sandbox, so let players have fun, be creative, and do whatever they want to do, without forcing a time limit on it!

looks at my house full of advanced coils and several machines what are crafting times?

I think what you’re looking for is some sort of creative mode. Perhaps in the future the developers will explore that route, but right now I doubt they want to split the player base, as the game heavily leans on community.

but, that can not have everyone. i don’t want play every evening for the next 4weeks just to craft or make coins for buy power coils.

4 weeks? We made all our power coils ourselves. Usually only took a few hours to get the gems for them.

Do you think a new player can do this in a few hours? We talking about crafting times for ALL player, not just players at the mid or engame ^^
And what i can play just 1-2h per day?

Compare that to ESO where it took like 2-3 weeks to research one trait on a weapon. Or warframe where it takes you 24 hours to build one part of your warframe blueprint then the warframe takes 72 hours to craft.

Some sort of crafting time is common in a lot of MMOs unfortunately, but at least we can reduce these times as you get deeper in the game. More machines, more coils, etc. instead of paying real life money to speed crafting time (pay to win)

I agreed with warframe, but in (T)ESO crafting is instant too. We talking about crafting not research.

1-2h a day sounds like casual player. So yea, it’s fine to just toss everything into a bench and let it craft for the other 22-23h a day you don’t play

Creative Mode implies free infinity supply of resources. That isn’t what we want. We just don’t want it to be hard.

I’ve pointed it out before, many times, weeks ago. In Minecraft, you can literally hit ‘End Game Resources’, aka Diamonds and have full diamond gear, in under an hour of starting the game.

And yet even so, even tho getting resources is easy, the game is still fun, played by billions of people, and one of the most successful games to ever exist, if not THE most successful game to ever exist.

And people like to make excuses on why we shouldn’t make things simpler and easier, but not removing the grind completely, and those excuses are usually “It’s an MMORPG, it shouldn’t be easy, you should be wasting your time!”.

Honestly, it’s sickening to see people stuff Boundless into a box, restricting elements, fun, and creativity, all because it has multiplayer. Even when it’s been proven that players are leaving, that the population on PC has already been cut in half, and that it’s rarely seeing new players.

Like I keep saying, Boundless promotes being a Creative Sandbox, to do what you want, build what you want, go anywhere you want. But you guys keep forcing restrictions on that.

The game needs an End Game. Why?
It needs a grind wall, Why?
Crafting needs long timers, Why?
Resources need to be scattered, scarce, and only in select locations, Why?
Recipies need to be much more complex, Why?
Unused objects need to be forced into Recipies, Why?
The game needs skills, and a player can’t do everything in a sandbox game, Why?
You need multiple Machines, Why?

And the answer is always a blanked excuse, “It’s an MMORPG, It HAS to have those”. So limited, so blocked in, no wonder trying to expand and grow the game is taking so long, and it’s released at such a state that’s empty of content.

In order to craft a weapon with those traits you need to research the trait tho lol. But i feel you

Yes, but that is similar to setting the skill point in the skill tree. And you have to lvl up to get skillpoints. :joy:

Here is a question for you. The game needs to be simpler and easier… why?

The game is already easy enough. :man_facepalming:

I usually just throw the stuff in a machine and let it craft while I continue to play or when I am logged out for the day. Sometimes I’ll do that and just go play another game altogether cause I like to break up my gaming time with multiple games.

I don’t see how crafting times are a negative. :man_shrugging:

I image that private servers, once they are released, will solve many of these issues, if they’re not tied to the main worlds. In a perfect world, people will then be able to alter the world settings to their own liking.

As for why crafting times exist, it’s another time commitment - just not an active one - and removing it has huge implications for other aspects of the game.
